3. Depends on where
parts are nice, parts are very run down.

Stay away from downtown after dark, or near the river after dark. Better places are in the Northwest or Northeast sections, and around Ft Bliss isnt bad either.

The weather is high desert, so its VERY hot in the summer (over 110 sometimes) but its dry heat so you dont notice as much. Winter is mild, and it does snow every couple years. There is a noticeable lack of drainage, so after a good rain (rare) some of the streets will flood.

Stuff to do - its about 500 miles to the next big city, but there is a lot to do in the area. Good minor league baseball team, good symphony, and a small amusement park (western playland). The local College (UTEP) has a decent basketball team. Its a regular stop for concert tours, and there is a small music scene around the college if you like live music.

5. Yes, El Paso is verrrry blue
But voter turnout is very low. Apparently the county party is rather factionalized and is not terribly interested in increasing turnout. Since it so far away from the other population centers in the state, it tends to be starved for attention n campaigns. Also, many people who live there are either not citizens or have no tradition of voting or paying attention to politics. If the problems with turnout in El Paso could be corrected the Sun City would be a major factor in flipping Texas over to the blue column.

I used to live there; moved away for good in the late Eighties.
