1. Not from Texas, but....
I just heard that and wow! They rattled off several large Texas cities. So, AAR will be in about 4 cities including Brownsville. It sounded like they'll be covering almost the whole state.

4. Texas went Bush by 68% but there are some heavily blue
areas. Houston, the valley, Dallas and along the coast. We once were a solid blue state, but Delay's redistricting really killed the the Dem's Prospects.

With AAR and Dean saying that the national machine will begin spening money in red states perhaps we can make a comeback.

6. In Dallas County, * won by fewer than 10,000 votes
Without DeLay's cheating, the county would have been solidly blue.

13. Which is why Dallas Whoring News' numbers are always tanking...
Edited on Mon Feb-28-05 06:59 PM by rainbow4321
and why Belo has to fudge on it's circulation stats.
The right wing rag is trying to appeal to a very blue community..and it ain't working. Hence the free papers they throw onto people's driveways every few weeks (in Collin County, anyway) and the "free early Sunday edition when you order a pizza on Saturday"--from Domino's or somesuch place.

Guess the Highland Park people are still lining their pockets well enough to where they feel no need to provide a more balanced newspaper everyone will read.

Whatever station AAR ends up on, they need to take out some billboard signs that can be shoved up WBAP's collective asses.

9. Ooo. Sorry, Houstonians!
Um, why not talk to Horse with No Name about her AAR-requesting packet and ya'll do something similar? I have no doubt that all her effort and hard work and everyone signing the petition helped, simply because we were all putting the vibe out there in the universe for others to pick up on. I think once you get enough people all thinking about the same thing sometimes it just happens.

10. Woohooooooooo!!!!
1190 was one of our targets--maybe my source knew more than he was letting on, or possibly his source knew.
I still think it would be great if we sent our letters and petition to them in a show of support.
What do you think?
This absolutely rocks.
Nice work.

12. More on 1190 and Clear Channel
http://www.radioink.com/HeadlineEntry.asp?hid=126956

Clear Channel Radio and Dallas-based First Broadcasting have announced they have signed an LMA for First Broadcasting to assume management of Fox Sports 1190 KFXR in Dallas, effective immediately.

“1190 KFXR was our only AM station in a very competitive market. This agreement allows us to focus on our five highly successful FM stations in Dallas.” said Clear Channel Dallas Regional Vice-President Brenda Adriance. “We are pleased that 1190 KFXR will be managed by First Broadcasting, who will continue our commitment of excellent programming to 1190 listeners.” Clear Channel Radio’s Dallas cluster includes KDGE-FM, KDMX-FM, KEGL-FM, KHKS-FM and KZPS-FM.

First Broadcasting said 1190 KFXR will maintain the current Fox Sports format, including the Jim Rome Show, until it introduces a new, not-yet-announced format. 1190 KFXR will continue to be the home of Texas A&M football and basketball broadcasts.

“1190 has an incredible radio heritage and is one of the three most powerful stations in Dallas with 50,000 watts. We are committed to introducing programming that will be unique and will have a strong local presence,” said Ron Unkefer, chairman and CEO of First Broadcasting. “Our broadcasts will originate from our studios in the Dallas Arts District and primarily feature local personalities.”

14. Saw this article about Reno and AAR-also replacing sports format
http://www.rgj.com/news/stories/html/2005/02/27/93270.php?sps=rgj.com&sch=LocalNews&sp1=rgj&sp2=News&sp3=Local+News&sp5=RGJ.com&sp6=news&sp7=local_news

Sports announcer Jim Rome is used to talking about big-time trades. Now, he’s fallen victim to one.

Rome’s sports-talk show will leave the Reno-area airwaves Monday, to replaced by liberal mouthpiece and former “Saturday Night Live” writer and performer Al Franken.

The frequency now allotted to Americom Broadcasting’s sports-heavy KPLY-AM will become KJFK-AM, a progressive-talk station, said Daniel Cook, general manager of Americom’s Reno Radio Representatives.

In exchange for Rome, Reno audiences will get political satirist Franken and other moderate-to-liberal hosts, including Stephanie Miller, Randi Rhodes, Lionel, and Ed Schultz, whose show has already begun airing on the station

16. It can't happen soon enough
Hopefully, though, the Dallas affiliate will make room for local progressive and liberal talk radio personalities, too. Otherwise the local conservatives will simply insist that New York's trying to force its values down Big D's throat.

20. I just realized something
With Lizz Winstead leaving Unfiltered, that leaves the morning block open for a good, strong, local talk-radio host. A liberal one.

I'm thankful for AAR. Liberals dropped the ball on the talk-radio explosion of the 90s, and now they're playing catch-up. Even before then, I only know of a handful of liberal/progressive talk-radio types like the late Alan Berg of Denver. So this is definitely time for a comeback.
