AMARILLO, Tex., June 1 (AP) - A former district attorney who had a reputation for being tough on drug offenders was sentenced Wednesday to five years in federal prison on drug-related charges.
The former prosecutor, Rick Roach, 55, was a district attorney for five Texas Panhandle counties when he was arrested at the courthouse for carrying two guns in his briefcase and admitted he was a methamphetamine addict. He was charged with unlawful possession of a gun by a drug addict; charges of methamphetamine and cocaine possession were dropped in a plea bargain.
