Texas outpaces U.S. economy

But experts aren't sure which sectors are driving the growth

In 2004, the Texas economy grew by 4.5 percent over the year before, slightly higher than the 4.2 percent U.S. rate, according to the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.

When telecom still struggles, and transportation industries are hobbled by record high oil prices, where is the new growth coming from?

4. Texas is a paradise for cheap labor conservatives

Weak unions, low wages, "voluntary" compliance with regulations and regulatory agencies who don't have the money they need to enforce the laws. So much of that growth goes into the pockets of the business owners, while workers see very little of it.

6. Three points here

1) Texas is still growing in population. This increase does help fuel things.
2) Security and Oil are both booming industries if you only look at the cash flow (not actual salaries being paid).
3) The economy here sucked so bad that it's finally starting to recover a bit. This is more or less a recovery not new growth.
