Strayhorn's Chances
Sinces Strayhorn is someone who is for equal rights for gays does pose a challenge for Chris Bell? I know she will lose some of the Republican vote. However, what some Republican just hold their noses and vote for her and then if the gay Republicans vote for her.

1. Perry is solid with religious right and ROve
Perry is solid with the religious right and Karl Rove is supporting and advising Perry from behind the scenes. Strayhorn is a good lady and is more popular than Perry with the general electorate. She will likely lose in the primary.

I am supporing Kinky or I would vote for Strayhorn in the primary just for fun.

2. What Republican vote is she likely to lose?
Honestly, even with all of Perry's pandering the religious right in Texas, I don't think they'll abandon the election if Perry does not win the primary, because they're active politically, and they are not going to allow a Democrat to come into power (Strayhorn can no doubt play to their fears in that regard, if she wins the primary). They certainly are not going to vote for Kinky.

There are just as many yella dog Republicans now as there used to be yella dog Democrats.

3. You are exactly right
It's why I no longer go to church even though I still have a deep and abiding faith.

Every Baptist service is in danger of degenerating into a GOP political rally.

This is also why I have little hope left in the Texas political system. The fundies have a strong enough mind control over a critical mass of Texans to have rendered the Democratic Party incapable of returning to power. Did I mention they own the vote-counting software as 'Plan B' (not that it's even necessary at this point to rig elections here)?

This is one of the only states in the U.S. where I could actually envision Nazi-style internment camps being constructed for the 'heathen' by some of Perry's building contractor contributors.

If I were gay, I'd strongly consider leaving Texas. You guys (not gasls so much; they always get a pass for some reason) are the new 'Jews.'

4. You know, it really depends on where you are.
This is also the state with a city (Dallas) where all of the city council members, the mayor, and the police chief were in last year's gay pride parade. Not to mention our new sheriff.

5. That's true
I live in Austin, which is quite tolerant of the homosexual community.
