Siblings are first declared Democratic candidates for Gov, Lt Gov
It sounds like a stunt, yet in all seriousness, a little-known Fort Worth educator and his Austin sister have surfaced as the first Democratic candidates for Texas governor and lieutenant governor in 2006.

Felix Alvarado, 62, and his 49-year-old sister, Maria Luisa Alvarado, named campaign treasurers last month, a traditional step toward a full-fledged candidacy.

The siblings, whose grandparents came to Texas from Mexico in 1910, think Democrats need to step up against Republicans, who have gripped all 29 elected positions statewide since 1999.

"Are we waiting for anyone's permission to come in? I said, 'Let's do it now,' " Maria Luisa said last month. "That's the kind of boldness that's needed. People are really attracted to that. They need that sense of confidence from the people they are evaluating as candidates."

What better way to solve the school finance debacle than to have a teacher in on the planning.

6. Interesting.........
I have to wonder, looking at the site, if the announcement of the two of them running, may be a way to get early notice for the sister's campaign for Lt. Gov.

It looks like she IS mounting a campaign and maybe he's just lending his name to help get her noticed early. If so, what a terrific brother!

It will be interesting to see how this all unfolds and I wish them well. Well, him, not so much, lol. (Go Chris!!)
