Tony's has hosted numerous private brunches through the years, but this was the first public Sunday opening. And in they came, led by Lakewood impresario Joel Osteen and his wife, Victoria, and their party of more than 100.
It wasn't all Lakewood church goers who assembled. Also communing at the high altar of social feeding were California Sen. Nancy Pelosi and family, City Council members Mark Goldberg and Michael Berry, Port Commissioner Janiece Longoria, Jeri and Marc Shapiro, Martha Turner and Glenn Bauguss, Shara Fryer and Barry Silverman, Suzy and Alvin Zimmerman, and on and on.
By the time the last Croque Madame (the lobster dish served on Tuscan bread with poached egg) was served, the restaurant had entertained more than 400, with service spilling over into the bar.
