An email I received this morning
Friends-
State Representative and Dallas Peace Action Director Lon Burnam asked me to let you all know that he will be leading a caravan to Crawford tomorrow - Saturday, August 13, departing his Fort Worth office at 9 a.m. Celeste and I are going down for the day but may be leaving a bit earlier. We look forward to seeing you all down there or on the way.
Lon is renting a 15-passenger van and is welcoming passengers. If you want to ride with him please RSVP his district office: 817.924.1997. Caravan will depart from the rear parking lot of this office, 1305 W. Magnolia, at 9a.m. sharp. He expects to depart Crawford Peace House at 5 p.m. for the return trip. I am encouraging as many as can carpool or have their own transport to utilize it - hopefully Lon will fill up with seniors, disabled (van will be standard - not wheelchair equipped - check office for details) or folks who don't have any other way. There are shuttles running between the Peace House and the site on a constant basis - parking in Crawford is likely to be remote - shuttles from parking to Peace House are already setting up as well.
All are encouraged to carry a day-pack. The site is remote and you want to be as self-contained as possible. There is plenty of food around and water as well, but you may want to bring your own personal bottle if it incorporates into your pack system. Forecast is hot and as there has been rain it will be muggy and likely buggy - repellent is a good idea. Open sandals and flip-flops at your own risk as the fire ants are swarming (my own toes are pleasantly pustulated at this point...) Also a lightweight portable folding chair or camp stool would be a good idea...
If you're planning on staying down overnight you'll want to start making arrangements now - likely in Waco. There's not really room to set up camp on site, although there are many (most) sleeping in their cars. Would assume that folks who want to camp at Peace House can but it is getting pretty crowded - I'm not recommending ground sleeping due to the fire ant situation. Would hope folks will be able to bunk under the dining tent after last meals but am not certain. If you have a standard folding cot and a sleeping bag you'll find a spot and do fine.
Please pass the words to all Democrats you know across Texas and even adjoining states. This is going to be a real opportunity to help lend major momentum to the anti-war effort and to derive our own Democratic strength from it. The more the merrier - and the louder!
Off to the trenches. Please drop a line and let me know if you're planning on coming - just to help me determine my own schedule and gameplan...
