Lets mess with Texas -- Toronto Star piece on Kinky Friedman
I thought that Texas DUers might like it

This column herewith declares itself the headquarters of Canadians For Kinky Friedman For Governor Of Texas In 2006, and I don't care who knows it.

I make this declaration in full knowledge of what it represents in terms of Canada's relationship with the U.S.

It is a hostile act.

Not that there has been all that much sweetness and light between us anyway. This is probably the natural next step, although the specialists who study Canada-U.S. relations probably expected the natural next step would be something along the lines of a trade restriction of one sort or another. They probably never considered the possibility of a strike at the very heart of America such as our all-out support for Kinky Friedman in his struggle to become governor of the state George W. Bush calls home.

Quite a character, Joey. I remember reading him when I was a teenager.

4. I'll second that Justitia
No more crackpot governors! This state is already in enough trouble to play anymore games. We need serious leaders with real answers to solve our problems.

10. That picture really is creepy
Especially with your tag line after the picture. That idea is too gross to think about. But what the heck, for Pickles, Kinky is probably better than bu$h.

9. bingo
We are dead last in the nation on percentage of students graduating from high school, 1 in 5 of our children are living in poverty, we're #1 in toxic pollution per capita, and we have a barely functioning state government already. We need LEADERSHIP, not entertainment.

12. Saw Kinky Sat. interviewed by Russert
Kinky is for gay marriage but wants non-denominational prayer in the schools.
But the most interesting part was when Kinky talked about how he LOVES George W. Bush and has been to the White House and smoked Cuban cigars on the Truman balcony with GW Bush. He actually said "loves" about Bush.
Give me Chris Bell who files ethics complaints against Tom DeLay and who does NOT love George W. Bush!!

13. Thank you Gingergal, well said!
Kinky would just get in bed with the bushes.

"Stay out of the bushes" to paraphrase a Jesse Jackson quote.

14. Let's hope Kinky splits the Republican vote
I'm hoping that Kinky is more appealing to Republicans than Democrats and independents. If we can convince some of the Republicans to vote for him rather than Goodhair, it can be useful to get Chris Bell elected.

16. Thanks
I'm fairly active on some other sites dealing with politics, but I just found DU and it looks like a good place for me to get involved with. Thanks for the welcome and I look forward to future dialogs.
