What are the good bars and restaurants in Houston, Texas?
Going to the Dem. State Convention and looking for places near the Brown Convention Center.

I am looking for places I can walk to.

Any suggestions would be great.

1. I'd like to know that too
I heard about an Irish Pub called Slainte, but unless they do drinking songs, it's just not the same.

3. Do you have a few hours. I am giddy at the prospect of getting out of
this one horse town into a CITY!!!. Seriously, the best way to do this if you are walking is to do a search by area or contact your hotel or get the alternative paper (which you can get when you get into town. Somehow cannot remember the name. It's free and will give you all the info you need with reviews and directions.). Where are you and when are you planning to get into Houston. Happy, happy day!!!

4. Here ya go
Try a search for the area at the Houston Chronicle website:

http://www.chron.com/content/chronicle/dining/index.html

I'm not really familiar with the area, so I can't really voice an opinion.

6. Check the Houston Press
It's a free weekly alternative paper. The new one comes out tomorrow, but you can check the current one online.

A big plus.....this week's has a DeLay expose' on the cover and it can still be downloaded and read for years to come. LOL

7. Here you go:
Getting direct to the Restaurants from merci's link:

http://www.houstonpress.com/issues/current/dining_toc.html

Select Downtown/Neartown from the pulldown menu.

Now then:

My favorites from that list are Bossa (Cuban), Cabo (Tex-Mex), Irma's (the one on Texas Ave.; Tex-Mex), Kim Son (Asian, one of the best in the city), Last Concert Cafe (bar food, burgers, burritos, very casual), Mia Bella (Italian/fusion; upscale), Saba Blue Water (for the cool and beautiful; food is excellent and you want to be dressed for Saturday night), and St Pete's Dancing Marlin (seafood, relaxed atmosphere).

Live Sports Cafe is a sports bar with serviceable bar food; Flying Saucer has 800 draft beer choices, pizza, a good roast beef au jus.

You can also check out MSN's City Guides; this is where I go first to find what I'm looking for:

I posted some more in the other threads...
