Major kudos for JohnCoby and the rest of BAND for pulling off a fantastic event!!! The turnout was phenomenal, Tequila Willie's did a great job taking care of us, and the speakers were in rare form! It was a really uplifting, energetic, and optimistic night!
I'll post a couple pics here, and you can see the rest at the photobucket link.

http://photobucket.com/albums/a68/Lisa0825/BAND/?action=view&slideshow=trueMy evening started out a little bumpy. I got there around 6:20, and the house was already almost full! I snagged 4 unmarked seats for our group and staked claim, waiting for the others to arrive. Lo and behold, 20 minutes later, when practically every seat was taken, some folks come up to me and inform me that I am sitting in their seats! Their friends on the other side of the table had reserved their seats by placing personal items there, but the rest of the table looked unclaimed, so I had no way of knowing. So, not wanting to cause issues with their group, I gave up our seats and spent the next 20 minutes attempting to find a new place to sit.
Finally, I saw a couple I knew at a table up front, and asked if I could have the waitstaff add another small table to the end of theirs. They said sure, so problem solved, right? Wrong!LOL! 10 minutes after I claimed THAT spot, someone came forward to inform me that that table was reserved for Chris Bell's group! It was getting pretty loud in there, 'cuz we Texas Dems are a rowdy bunch! So, I tried to explain that that table I was at wouldn't be there except that I'd asked for it to be put there. They seemed OK with the explanation, but I was afraid I was stepping on toes by being there.
That being said, we ended up on the front row, much better than my first pick!LOL! Plus, Chris Bell and David Van Os and his wife were all at *our* table! Everything happens for a reason, right?
So, PDittie, WestHoustonDem, and intheflow arrive. intheflow is a terrific person! I don't know if you all read about her situation or not, so here's the link:
http://www.democraticunderground.com/discuss/duboard.php?az=show_topic&forum=180&topic_id=19449 She is from Denver and drove down here to donate a camper to an evacuee.
Now, I gotta say it: JohnCoby, you ROCKED the house!!! :yourock: Damn, you were on fire!!! I can't wait until you run for office! You are going to make one hell of an exciting candidate when that day comes!
David Van Os was ON FIRE as well! His speech was so passionate and exciting! The best I think I've seen from him, except possibly for his talk to DFA at the Texas convention.
David, I am sorry, but I have to post this picture. You can call it the "flash effect," but that look in your eyes is a perfect way to show how fired up you were!
I think between JohnCoby and David Van Os, the rest of the speakers just couldn't help but give it their all! Jay Aiyer, John Sharp, and Nick Lampson were all more animated and enthusiastic than I think I have ever seen them. Lampson told stories about his mom and sister that were really touching. I've had my doubts about him before, due to his muddled explanation of where he stands on choice, but I was really impressed with him last night. Sylvia Garcia looked great in red, but made it clear that she's true blue. I don't think I've heard much from her before, though I have seen her in person. She was energetic, articulate, and adamant about turning Texas around on all levels.
And as for Chris Bell... well, what can I say.... I admit it. I'm totally smitten. He looked great as ever, and gave a terrifc speech, hitting all the high points from his kickoff party speech and then some. Don't worry Chris, no one in that room will forget your name!!!
(reference to a story he told about a man in a small town who heaped praise on him, mentioned him running for president, and then asked, "What was your name again?" LOL) It's always great hanging out with the Houston DU contingent, and it was wonderful meeting our Denver visitor, intheflow. As much hell as Texas gets for being the supposed hometown of Bush*, no one should judge Texas Dems until they see how we can throw a party! Texas Dems ROCK and I'm proud to be a part of it! :yourock:
