1. How about heading over to the poorer areas and picking up
some people, first.

3. How about driving down from Lawson
and picking some poor people up?

Sorry for the snotty tone. I'm a little on edge having just spent a week in Houston volunteering with the Katrina evacuees. Read the article DS1 posted to learn that people are planning on staying in the animal shelter because they can't evacuate the animals. Anyone evacuating these animals would be saving people.

6. I pray Texas can rally all assets and get the people + pets out. They know
Edited on Wed Sep-21-05 04:44 PM by jean
the federal government cannot and will not do the job. Come on, Texas - the 'don't mess with us state' - we're praying you can get this done!

5. Galveston mayor specifically allowed pets on buses
She mentioned it several times in interviews. Said this was learned lesson from Katrina.

On buses, pets must be in cages, dunno what happens if you have a large dog, but at least the attitude is there.

She also mentioned forming a volunteer group ahead of time that has gone door-to-door to determine needs for transportation, etc.

I am pretty proud of Galveston. They weren't afraid to start early, issue mandatory orders for evac schedules and plans by Monday.

7. I pray for them all. I hope it doesn't repeat the tragedy from way
back when. I am glad people are valuing pets. They can heal broken hearts afterwards. God bless you all.

8. Mayor of Galveston just said that they won't be able to take
anymore people out using public buses.

so if you're going out - offer everyone a ride.

They're stuck there without your help.

I don't think there will be a safe spot on that island. Not from a category 5.
