Houston's Gay Pride Parade - Saturday, June 26

This is a notice to Democratic Clubs, but EVERYONE is welcome!!
Come join in the parade or watch and cheer. Usually there are 100,000 plus attending. This is great fun time.


Attention Democratic Clubs!

Here is the latest on HCDP's participation in the Gay Pride Parade on Saturday, June 26.

Where We Meet and When:

Our staging area is at 1708 Kipling. Pride Committee rules require us to have the pick-up in place and decorated by 7:00 p.m. Walking units are to be in place by 7:30 p.m., so do your best to join us around 7:30. You will not be able to drive to 1708 Kipling because the staging area is closed to vehicles. Park as close as you can and then walk to meet us.

Max Beauregard for designing and making the banners for Rick's truck. I have attached a copy of them. Aren't they AWESOME?

Julie Jackson-Lusby for creating chants we can shout along the parade route and for designing our choreography (?) for the hat throw.

Hats and Beads

Your club members may bring beads to throw along the parade route. Additionally, we are planning to throw straw cowboy hats into the crowd when we reach the reviewing stand. I ordered hats for clubs that placed orders by the 5th. I have hats for: Heights Democrats (15), Meyerland Democrats (10), Bellaire Democrats (10), ROADwomen (12) and Julie Jackson-Lusby (1).

If you did not order hats and would like to have hats to throw, you can purchase straw cowboy/western style hats at the least the following places:

Arne's, 2830 Hicks - $1.49/each

Party City (any of them) - $2.49/each.

We are making hatbands that will give us a little Democratic publicity when we toss our hats to the crowd. We will attach the hatbands to all hats we ordered. If you are bringing hats to the parade, please let us know how many so we can make hatbands for you.

Club Banners and T-Shirts

Please bring your club banners and wear your club t-shirts or HCDP t-shirts.

Water

You may wish to bring a bottle of water because it will be a warm evening.

Note to Democratic Candidates

Please bring two or three yard signs or something similar. We will ask a couple of Democrats to carry them for you. We are not permitted to distribute signs or literature, so please bring only the two or three signs.

To All

If you don't have a club banner, a club/party t-shirt or a hat, come on anyway. We want as many Democrats as possible in this parade.

3. Staging area on Kipling?

Oh boy, my family is gonna love that! We love Kipling, it's a great street, but every festival (Greek, gay pride, etc.) we're afraid to go anywhere for fear that we'll lose our parking spots!
