Been getting the "Culberson Insider Updates" in my email ever since I sent my Cro-Magnon Man, DeLay-Clone Congressman an email about something bugging me a while back. Probably good to know what the other side is up to anyway.
So, here's the spew he comes up with today:
***START OF VOMIT-INDUCING CONTENT***
CULBERSON STATEMENT IN SUPPORT OF TOM DELAY
""Today's indictment of House Majority Leader Tom DeLay is proof that Ronnie Earle is nothing more than a hatchet man for the Democratic Party who uses his position as Travis County District Attorney to attack his political opponents. We should all remember that his 1994 indictment against former Texas Treasurer and current United States Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison was so baseless that he had to withdraw the case on the first day of the trial. Ronnie Earle also zeroed in on former Texas Attorney General Jim Mattox in the 1980s, and those indictments were eventually dismissed. An indictment from a grand jury is an accusation, and an indictment from Ronnie Earle against a powerful and successful Republican leader like Tom DeLay is simply a publicity stunt and political payback on behalf of the entire Democratic Party.
"Ronnie Earle railroaded a grand jury into indicting Tom DeLay so that our Majority Leader would be forced to resign his post. He and his Democratic supporters are targeting Tom DeLay for the same reason that Confederate General Stonewall Jackson always ordered his troops to shoot the brave ones first because it will scare the others. Tom DeLay was indicted because he is the most effective leader in the United States Congress. The Democrats could not beat him in the House of Representatives or at the ballot box, so they changed the venue and manipulated the rules of the game in a last ditch effort to derail him and our Republican agenda.
"Tom DeLay is an honest and decent man who always does the right thing for the right reasons. (:puke:) I stand behind Tom DeLay 100 percent, and I am confident that he will be proven innocent and regain his position as Majority Leader."
Here is a link to an excellent analysis of the indictment from a lawyer that I respect.

The "excellent analysis" was a one-paragraph post on a web board by someone who had read the indictment and said that it didn't charge DeLay with a crime.
Okay, um. It looks like Cro-Magnon Man needs a new lawyer.
Enough with the willful ignorance!!! Here's my response:
Mr. Culberson:
I'm also a lawyer, and I disagree with your respected lawyer's opinion that nothing in the indictment points to criminal acts on the part of Mr. DeLay. The crime that Mr. DeLay has been charged with is conspiracy.
If three people decide to commit a felony bank robbery, it doesn't matter which one drove the car and which one carried the gun. In fact, the guy who lends the robbers the car, with full knowledge about what they intend to do with it and intent to take a cut of the "take," is also guilty under our law. According to the indictment, Mr. DeLay had a part in planning the scheme to launder TRMPAC money through the RNC. Mr. DeLay undoubtedly also had a hand in raising that money. The fact that one associate wrote the check and another associate provided the list of persons to whom the funds were to be illegally diverted does not make Mr. DeLay innocent of any crime. Only a jury can determine that.
