How common is it for a candidate to be outside the polling place on voting
day?

I watched "Last Man Standing" a couple years ago about Patrick Rose and I remember the scene on election day with both Green and Rose standing outside. What are the Texas laws about candidates being around, can they pass out literature? Or have signs? I know there's a (50?) foot limit to be away from the polls.

1. Candidates can work the polls just like anyone else
As long as you stay outside of the 100-foot no-electioneering "line of death" passing out lit and talking to voters is fine.

2. It's common as dirt (so long as they're outside the 100 foot perimeter)

3. Can make or break a close election
Just like you saw in Last Man Standing, Rose won by a very narrow margin. So that personal touch in a precinct or two that is a swing district is a good idea.
