Good Democrats Endorse Their Primary Opponents! (Nueces County Edition)
In light of the (surely false) hooha about whether lifelong Democrat Bob Gammage will endorse someone other than the Democratic nominee, Chris Bell (hell, Gammage has already endorsed Bell on March 7th; isn't that enough?), I'd like to take this time to thank the Democratic candidates in Nueces County who have endorsed their primary opponents:

NUECES COUNTY DEMOCRATIC PARTY CHAIR:

John Kelley and Joel Mumphord have both endorsed their former opponent Jerry Trevino (against the Wal-Mart candidate)

COUNTY COURT NO. 4:

Luis Octavio Gutierrez has endorsed his former opponent Democrat incumbent Judge Jim Klager (against the perpetual candidate who's never won)

These are the only endorsements I have heard so far. If anyone knows of other Nueces County Democratic endorsements, please post them here.

2. What don't you like about Alex Garcia,
other than he works for WalMart? I've found him personable and hard-working.

water supply and some other city-provided utilities, which I think was a godawful idea.

He was a critic of the plan to enrich the latchkey after-school program for at-risk kids, after he had previously said he would support to program.

He was the tie-breaking vote with Lloyd Neal to sustain the CPL power monopoly when other council members favored competition.

Remember when he actually called the FBI into investigate Betty Turner and the Corpus Christi Police Officer's Association because they disagreed with his vote alongside Lloyd Neal to switch the city's health care to Humana? That was foolish, and it was an embarrassment (he's not what you'd call a "uniter").

When he was a council-member, Alex always seemed to put business interests (and his relationship with Lloyd Neal) above the people's interests -- he never seemed like much if a Democrat to me. Plus, there is his relationship with Wal-Mart.

Jerry Trevino seems like a nice guy (I'd have been happy with John Kelley, too) who I have actually seen at Democratic candidate functions (and not just during this election cycle), but I cannot think of any reason why we would want Alex Garcia running the party.

Is there something about Alex that I'm overlooking?

6. Thanks
I don't really know either candidate for Nueces County Democratic Chair, so this additional information is helpful.

3. Czolgosz? your wrong
What about Jerry is so good?
I have meet Jerry and he is ARROGANT. Where has he been since last ran for party chair 4 yrs ago? I have not seen him around until now? He looks more like a person who just wants a title and not the work.
Just because someone works for Wal-Mart does not make them the devil! My aunt works at Wal-Mart!

5. Gulfdem, If you support Alex, you MUST work for Mikal Watts
"Alex Garcia ... was overheard early in the campaign as saying he had the full support of Vilma Luna, and another source said early on the 'Watts cabal' was voting for him. Neither Luna nor Watts hangs out in my working-class world, so I can not confirm this.... both of my sources are extremely reliable."
