A couple of numbers? How about a 20% discrepancy between the number of voters and the number of votes? Oh, and the recount? There were no paper ballots, so they’re counting ballots printed by the touch screen machines that are malfunctioning. Yeah, that works! Wasn’t it Einstein who said that doing the same thing and expecting different results is the definition of insanity?

This story is about the Republican primary in a West Texas county. A few weeks ago I read about the Democratic Primary in Tarrant having a recount because of exactly the same issue--more votes than voters. Stories like this are cropping up all over the state and nation. Some states are outlawing the ballotless machines because of poor performance and security concerns.

For whatever good it will do.
The recent spate of electronic voting snafus, both in Texas and
nationally, should serve as a wake up call and alert us all to the
necessity of reverting back to reliable paper ballots. The people have NO
confidence in proprietary software which is unauditable with untraceable
electronic votes disappearing into the ether untraceable by you, me or
any other entity.

Only a complete fool could place his full trust in this system and Sir I
give you the credit of having more sense than that and expect the same
courtesy in return. The majority of Texans also possess that amount of
intelligence as well and know these machines are the invention of a snake
oil salesman and are not conducive to democracy.

I respectfully ask you to issue a moratorium on the use of these systems
until such time as they can be demonstrated to be 100% reliable and in
conformance with all applicable regulations, which at the present time
they clearly are not.
