MoFo Perry being considered for VP slot in 2008 Presidential race
I think I'm going to puke :puke:

AAS article 4/1
Perry raising national profile during re-election race
Potential GOP presidential candidates Rudy Guiliani and Sen. John McCain have written fundraising letters for Perry. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist and Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, also possible contenders, have met with Perry or appeared at events with him. Virginia Sen. George Allen's aides have contacted Perry's staff.

Political operatives from both parties say much of that attention comes because Perry, if re-elected, could help the Republican presidential nominee win a big state in a year in which Texas could swing to either party after Bush's reign.

"The governor, whether it be a Democrat or a Republican, will play an enormous role in the presidential election year campaign," said Bill Lauderback, executive vice president of the American Conservative Union, based in Alexandria, Va.

It's also possible would-be presidential nominees are sizing up Perry as a possible vice presidential pick.

As much as I want to get rid of MoFo Perry, the last thing I want to see is Perry be on the national ticket for the republicans. We need to make sure he loses in November.

4. I think its extremely unlikely an ex-governor Perry
would be considered.

My early morning handicapping line right now has Strayhorn-Keaton-etc. as Even money to be sworn in as guv in January next year. Fine with me if we can't have Dem. She used to be a Dem anyway and still thinks that way some.

5. She isn't even close to resembling a Democrat
Doesn't matter that she used to be a Dixiecrat, she's not the woman for the job. She's not fine by me at all.

You know Perry used to be a Dixiecrat too. So if you're your going to be satisfied with former "so called" Democrats, that would include people like MoFo Perry and Phil Gramm too. They all became republicans for a reason - they're conservatives.

6. Regarding the Texas Governor's race
I'm afraid that Strahorn-etc. is as good as its gonna get for us. I'd obviously prefer Chris Bell. I don't think that's gonna happen. No reason to think anything has changed in Texas that would get a Dem elected. And without a solid Texas Democratic Party chair in place it's an uphill struggle at best. (Gee I miss Bob Slagle!)

I damn sure don't want Perry. So I guess Strahorn-etc.'s much the lesser of two evils. Strayhorn-etc. is not a fundie mindless bushbot which is why she's running independent. She knew she couldn't win in the GOP primary. And who knows, between her and Kinky, they may split the vote enough to get her and Bell into a runoff. Of course that also means Perry would have to run third. Then, its wide open and Bell has a real shot at it because the fundies and bushbots will stay home for a runoff. Otherwise, its pick the lesser of two evils.

The new declaration that there is a war on christianity is nothing but a blatant get out the vote move for the GOP and it will work very well. That and a few other GOTV things they have for the fundies probably ensures Perry will run no worse than second, Bell likely running third, and Strahorn-etc. first or second. Then the runoff is Strayhorn-etc and Perry. That one is a flip a coin contest for who wins. Depends if they can get the fundies and bushbots back to the polls a month later. I would expect sightings of Jesus returning in the clouds right before it starts raining (a miracle) would be a major sign the fundies need to go back and vote for Perry in the runoff.

My analysis.

I'd LOVE to have Kinky.

9. There are no run-offs in November
Whoever has the most votes wins. It could end up being a 30%-28%-25%-17% and 30% wins, no run-off.

13. Oh man not another Kinky supporter
This is crazy. I can't understand what it is about "Democrats" supporting Kinky. Do you know everything there is to know about Kinky? We have throughly trashed him on this board with direct links to his stance on issues. He's a republican who has only voted once in the past 12 years and that was for bush jr. He does not support a woman's right to reproductive freedom. He's a conservative, he was flamed by NOW as being a male chauvinist pig, he's a soft racist, and he's pro-war. And still you'd love to have Kinky. Maybe you're in the wrong party. It sounds like you're really an Independent. And Kinky isn't even an Independent, he's a republican.

We're Democrats on this board who are not defeatists and believe in rebuilding the party. That means we work hard and support our Democratic candidates. To see us as divided at the local level as we are at the national level is really sad. We're always criticizing our Congressional Democrats for not sticking together and backing each other up as a unified base, and here you see it right here locally. The defeatist attitude - Bell can't win. We'll he certainly won't win, when Democrats don't believe that he can.

Sonias, you've managed to put exactly what I think into a nice cohesive post, explaining exactly why people shouldn't be for Kinky.

Thanks!

The last straight talking politician is now president.

Oh. Nevermind, it isn't ignorance. It is stupidity.

7. Good news...Bad news
The good news is any Democrat should be able to highlight Perry as an impotent leader.

The bad news is all the MSM will talk about is his great hair.

8. I'm having horrible flashbacks
to 1998 when Bush was governor of Texas and this sort of talk started cropping up about him being a presidential candidate in 2000.

So, a couple of thoughts -
Dear God, if only we could turn the clock back and save our country and the world all the heartache and catastrophe of the past six years.

And, this should be taken seriously, because Bush wasn't qualified in 1998 to be the President of the United States. He wasn't doing one damn thing right here in Texas, but the repubs knew they could take him from where he was and groom him to where they wanted him to be.

And, if they mine another one from our state to be in the executive branch, it's going to be that much harder for us to turn our state blue.

(Don't try and tell me that the republicans will wake up and realize how dumb/inept Perry is. They will not wake up to this or they will not care.)

21. OK, Muse, you kid of made my Kinky point..
Let me say, to start, that I am not going to vote for Kinky, as that would be a waste of my effort. I do not support him, but I understand why others would, and that support has NOTHING to do with logical politics. However, what I have said before is that the Governor of Texas is a JOKE - it should never, ever have been construed by the rest of the US as a springboard into the Presidency.

Shrubbie had the most cynical rise to power of any leader since the Shah of Iran. He was INSTALLED as Goivernor, because the oligarchy knew he couldn't do any harm, and that he would be one of 50 governors, so he would get some attention nationally.

So, the viability of a Kinky campaign after Perry and Bush shows, very prominently, how relatively lame the office of the Governor really is. Kink has no political position, he has no plans - he just makes doubletalk and silly observations and promises to make Willie Nelson a political figure.

He is a waste of a vote at a time when the Governor actually COULD make a difference by proposing a meaningful and supportable school finance reform plan, for example, or publically speak to the current corruption of the system by big business. Chris Bell is hopefully the right guy - but he needs to start drawing focus before Kinky cynicism gets the better of him.

Personally, I think it's great that Kinky is making national headlines, because it pulls focus on Perry and his rape of this state. Chris need to take advantage of that as well, and make sure he has great soundbites when the press comes to get his opinion on Kinky...

22. Ouch, though
I mean, you make a good point about the Texas governor's job being lame, but then you make the opposite point about how the governor COULD be a strong voice for reform, which is what we all want Bell to be about. I would want Bell to step up to the plate in the same way Mark White did for teachers. Anybody else remember that? I do think the governor can take a stand and decide there isn't going to be anymore crap about certain stuff and work with the legislators to get things done.

I want Bell to start acting like he already is the governor. I see some glimmers of that and I like it.

Your very last point about Kinky is actually something I can agree with.

10. NOW THIS
Now this line:

"Political operatives from both parties say much of that attention comes because Perry, if re-elected, could help the Republican presidential nominee win a big state in a year in which Texas could swing to either party after Bush's reign."

is the exact reason we need to be asking ourselves if we want more of the same or someone who has proven organizing experience over decades to help us take back our state on a precinct by precinct and county by county level leading the TDP into 2008...

11. uggh...
:puke:

Since it's likely he'll be an ex-governor, I'm sure it will diminish his capability as a VP candidate. Can you imagine the campaign ads: He lost the governorship over his ineffective ability to run Texas, so let's elect him as VP.

18. Good point
If Goodhair loses his re-election bid, he's finished. He'll have a (well-deserved) reputation for failure for inability to run the state even with his party controlling all branches of government.

Hmmmmm does that remind you of ayone else?

Who voted to put this joke in office to begin with. Wish I could allay your fears. Even with MoFo's approval ratings in the tank just slightly higher than bu$h, they want to take the good hair project nationally.

Shall be bring back the Ricky Perry is gay rumor and scare them off?
