When is the DU caucus in Ft Worth?
Flying saucer.
Friday night at 8:00?

David Van Os is looking for a venue for a rally. Would you guys like to organize this? We would get a great crowd, and more members for DU! It would give us something more to do than just drink.

Hum....wait a minute. That is all I want to do on Friday night!!!!!

1. I think this should be two seperate things...
If David wants to rally and have DUers involved that's fine...but I think our "caucus" to go drinkin' should be a seperate thing.

2. OK. Lets have our caucus and invite David to drop by!
And keep them separate.

Hey, after the speeches, I will be ready to sit and talk and drink with DUers for a long while.

3. Have you seen the Friday night schedule posted anywhere?
So far, the only official thing I've picked up is the Wes Clark caucus from 1 to 3pm Friday afternoon and that he's opening the convention (accepting the colors) at 6pm.

On BOR there's discussion that Bell is planning to make his speech on Friday night, instead of on Saturday. Obviously, that would be sometime after Clark. I'm thinking there will be some type of business taking place between, so it's possible Bell will be speaking about 8pm on Friday.

Does anyone have their program from 2004? I'm thinking we went to a party about 10pm or so and it was right from the convention speeches. Many people never made it there, because they were tied up in committees til after midnight.

4. I seem to recall a pre-convention party on Thursday night
Then a very late night on Friday doing the SD caucus and I was up really late with Credentials committee. Then Saturday night we had a DU pub crawl in Houston.

I'm wondering if we need to schedule the DU "caucus" for Saturday night.

12. Here's what I recall from 2004
Thursday evening, there was a TDP fundraiser which I recall being fairly early. Following that was a party at the Aquarium Restaurant, sponsored by John Sharp.

Friday a ton of caucuses started early in the morning and I believe the SD caucuses, at least ours, started early in the afternoon, which I recall, because we had to make a run home after the morning caucuses and get back in time for out SD caucus in the afternoon. We chose delegates from our SD for the national and for the various committees.

Early Friday evening, there were various speakers, including John Edwards. After the speakers, the various committees held their caucuses, though some I believe were even caucusing during the speeches.

The Harris County Young Democrats had a party Friday night or maybe theirs was Saturday night. Around 10pm or so, we made our way over to a beer and crawfish party, sponsored by Rodney Ellis and Chris Bell. We left about midnight, though it was really just getting up a head of steam about then. I understand people on some committees never made it to any parties that night.

Saturday morning, there was the traditional Blue Star Breakfast fundraiser and after that, the convention convened, probably about 10am. The rest of Saturday is a blur, but it never stopped. We were beat, by dinner time, so we went over to the Hilton and had dinner with a few couples and then decided to just head on home.

Since we live in Houston, we didn't have a hotel room, so we made the decision to skip Friday night. However, we plan to get into Ft.Worth sometime on Wednesday and stay until check-out Sunday.

5. Ummm...I'm wondering if Saturday would be better...
I just remembered that last time around I was stuck in Credentials Committee on Friday night til pretty late. Maybe it would be better to do our drinking after all the official convention business is over with. Not that getting together Friday wouldn't rock for those who could make it. And last time we also had a pre-convention get together on Thursday night. Met in the hotel bar and then went to the big pre-convention party sponsored by the Party.

6. I don't think most of us have hotel reservations for Saturday night
Not that I wouldn't be willing to change that, believe me, if this sort of event was on my official schedule!

7. Why no hotel Saturday?
Maybe it's just because I live in Austin and it's a bit of a drive, but last time the convention stuff on Saturday didn't end til fairly late in the afternoon. I was way too tired to drive.

9. It'll probably all be a lot easier to figure out...
logistics-wise when they actually put the convention schedule out. I'm kinda irritated that it isn't up on the state party website yet.

10. meanwhile, it should be easy enough to add in the Saturday stay
and cancel later, if that's what I decide to do.

Let's hope that's easy, anyway.

13. John here's a link to your original thread

Since we've decided to do two nights of deep drinking DU Caucus, we might want to do ask David to be our guest speaker on Friday. Saturday will be the real hard core bar hopping DU caucus. Someone needs to be responsible designated DU rounder to make sure everyone gets home i.e. the rounder doesn't drink too much.

I don't think we should try to overreach on Friday night and have too many competing things. Having David come to our DU Caucus on Friday, if he has the time, would be a great boost to our DU caucus. And it would introduce David to the best damn activists in Texas. It won't be a rally, more like a fun social "Meet and Greet" caucus.

I think David needs to have a table/booth at the convention. Anyone willing to help staff that for any length of time would be greatly appreciated. The booth staffing is only during convention hours. I'm sure David would not mind us promoting DU at their table. If we make a DU flyer announcing our DU Caucus Friday night with David as our guest speaker, that would rock.

14. Sounds like a brilliant plan, sonia
I don't know what my convention schedule will look like...but if possible I'll try to spend some time working the table.

But don't look at me to be a designated driver. ;)

15. Honey, I scratched you off the list first
I can be one of the DU rounders. I'm not a big drinker. Not that there's anything wrong with drinking responsibly. :silly:

I was hoping we were doing a bar hop route we could walk to. Do you want to handle trying to research a route of local drinking establishments within walking distance of the convention hotels? yellowdogintexas had a nice starting list on the original thread.

16. I know just about nothing about Fort Worth
We probably need to get one of the locals to figure out where to go...sorta like PDittie did last time in Houston.

17. Sundance Square will keep you busy bar hopping for
hours. There are bars and there are restaurants with bars, and there are hotels with bars
Flying Saucer
8.0
Pour House
MiCocina
Chili's
Bennigans
Fizzi's
Grape Escape
City Streets
Reata
and I know there are more, these just pop up as I think about it.

Guess I need to do a driving tour of downtown FW and make some lists for y'all. Places move in and out of that area, names change, etc. But it is very walkable.

There are a couple of eateries which only serve wine, like La Madeline and Picci Pacci too.

First chance I get to do this I will post a revised list.

18. That's wonderful news yellowdogintexas
Thank you for helping us out. I certainly don't think we need more than 5-6 places, I hope.
