Rumors are that mayor of Sugar Land will be in special election

Good grief - very safe candidate. (off of burntorangereport - lots of good stuff on there tonight)

Here is what we hear from independent Texas sources. Tom DeLay will resign, probably by the end of the week in order to allow Gov. Rick Perry to call a special election. The presumptive favorite is David Wallace, mayor of Sugar Land. ABC confirms to QR that DeLay will give up his Texas residency and move to the DC area. The story broke through a Time interview.

Our mayor is sort of like the anti-DeLay. Very, very safe. I know just about zero about him. Incognito.

Those who acknowledged interest in the seat or were mentioned as contenders included Harris County Judge Robert Eckels, state Rep. Robert Talton, Sugar Land Mayor David Wallace, Houston City Councilwoman Shelley Sekula-Gibbs and former State District Judge John Devine.

Harris County Republican Party Chairman Jared Woodfill said he started receiving calls from interested officials within minutes of hearing the news of DeLay's decision.

2. I'm reading more about the Wallace thing, though

and I think it is very serious and maybe seriously rigged.

He's come right out and saying he is running. It may be a pre-planned thing.

He's very young and very sanitized. No baggage. No experience either.
