Do we want a special election to fill DeLay's seat? Lampson on this!
I'm in TX-22. It's all very confusing and very political as to the advantages and disadvantages of having a special election to fill DeLay's congressional seat. Also, if a special election were held, what timing of that election would be best? Lone Star Project (http://www.lonestarproject.net/archive/2006voteproject.html) has the best answers regarding the constitutional aspects of this entire situation.

Here is what Nick Lampson is going to say about it today. I've been eager to hear from him. The location of this press conference is terrific. David Wallace, Mayor of Sugar Land and announced candidate to replace DeLay, should be able to watch this press conference from his office!:

Nick Lampson, congressional candidate for Texas's 22nd congressional district, will hold a press conference Thursday to call for a Special Election to be held on May 13.

Lampson said, "Tom DeLay lost this race. Now, it's time for him to move on. Southeast Texas should not be without a Congressperson for months while our country is at war, we face a difficult debate about how to secure our borders and reform immigration and our debt and deficit are skyrocketing. Our seat in Congress should not be empty while Tom DeLay tries to manipulate who his successor will be."

The next unified Election Day is May 13th. Tom DeLay should resign from Congress, be declared ineligible for the November election, and let Texans get on with the business of getting a new congressperson in May. Otherwise, if DeLay resigns in June and the Governor calls for a special election on November 7 to coincide with the general election, the people of the 22nd congressional district will be without any representation for months while our country is at war, is fighting terrorists, and is debating important issues like immigration reform. It is wrong for the people of this district to have no voice in Congress just so Tom DeLay can maneuver and handpick his successor in yet another backroom deal. DeLay should leave now and the Governor should call this special election in May. This should happen by the end of this week.

Lampson will speak at 10 am at Sugarland Town Square Plaza, 2700 Town Center Blvd. North in Sugarland.

2. Perry: No special election for DeLay's seat

http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/dn/latestnews/stories/040706dntexdelayseat.c63127d.html

Rick Perry said Thursday he won't call an emergency special election to replace resigning Republican U.S. Rep. Tom DeLay, meaning candidates for the suburban Houston congressional seat will have to wait for the November election.

DeLay, who is under indictment in Texas on charges of criminal conspiracy and money laundering, announced this week that he will resign sometime before mid-June.

"If I don't get (DeLay's letter of resignation) by close of business tomorrow, the election will be in November," Perry said Thursday.

Perry has the authority to call an emergency special election anytime or wait for the next uniform election date, which is May 13. DeLay would have to resign this week for a May election. After that, the next election date is Nov. 7.

3. New Campaign: STEP DOWN WITHOUT DeLAY
muse, since you are in tis district maybe you could help spread the meme "Step Down Without DELAY"

http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/headline/metro/3774754.html

A Nov. 7 date would mean voters in the 22nd District would vote twice for congressional candidates — once to fill out what then would be the final two months of DeLay's term and once for the next term.

As to confuse voters, nothing more than DeLay's Cockroachery. He does his best work in the dark, wouldn't you say?

Gov. Goodhair did something similar before the primary this year!

Governor Rick Perry has called a special election (before the primary) for this race, set for February 28 (Democrat Katy Hubener is running for State Representative for Texas District 106 (which emcompasses Grand Prairie and a small part of south Irving). This was intentional, so that the Republican could have a better chance of winning.

Some GOP leaders prefer that option, saying a separate special election would be too costly. But Lampson and others say it would be unfair to leave the people of the district without representation in the U.S. House for several months.

You bet they do. They like confusing voters. By any means necessary.

Cheat,
Steal,
Rig,
Memory Chips,
Computer Glitch,
Dark of the Night,
More Cockroachery.

Voting twice on election day would offer the best chance for the Repubs to steal it. Since when did the Repubs care about "saving money", oh yeah, right this is about the Voters getting to elect their representative, and we all realize by now the Reichwing doesn't believe in democracy. They believe in De"mock"racy. We the Corporations, decide who's "Elected"

Tom Campbell, a Fort Bend County lawyer who came in second in the March Republican Primary, said a special election should be held before Republican leaders select a nominee.

"The November election (should be) informed by the results of the special election." said Campbell, who has stated his plans to seek the seat. "The selection process should be open, transparent and democratic. We need to avoid any appearance of selection by back-room bargain."

At least someone within the GOP race understands the process, and willing to expose the inside dark of night shenanigans and Cockroachery.

4. Chris Bell needs to use this to his advantage like crazy
He needs to really call Perry on this. I know he will!

This should get fun! Chris is strong on this kind of stuff and is not afraid of a fight.

I think this will work against all of the Republicans up and down ticket. As you suggest, we need to stay on message and expose the back-room, shenanigans, cockroachery aspects of this!!

5. Chris, Nick and Tom Campbell need to speak out
about how this is skirting the democratic process by not allowing the special election. This only proves they know they can't win by fair elections, so they have to resort to the same ol' tactics, and pathetic attempts to circumvent the will of the people.

Makes me wonder who is sucking up to BugBoy.

Who has their lips firmly implanted around BugBoy's ________?

This really shows how much these guys hate Democracy....

6. Can I fill in the blank
Ass?

Remember this is the crew that doesn't like to have a fair vote. They re-redistrict (aka gerrymandering in Texas). They stop recounts. They disenfranchise entire populations of people they know don't vote for them. They pay their staff to become thugs and intimidate people. They lie, they cheat, and they steal. They have the fix in at the ballot box with fraudulent software owned by private companies that want repukes to win. Oh yeah, this is what Democracy looks like now. Don't you with "1984" was just a book and not our reality?
