"Break the Cycle" by Days Drive; rock band from Houston
I just found out about this band. Break the Cycle is a song about corporate corruption!
Give it a listen and let's help promote this song....

1. Lyrics for "Break the Cycle"
Your philosophy, is hypocrisy,
Just another neocon conman,
You pray for pain, and claim your fame,
Your angel masks are all the same.

So here it goes, I'll count to three
and we'll break the cycle, finally.
You're running out of something new, underneath,
This is why, I have to see you leave.

You get on by, preaching lies,
and deny that anything is wrong.
So surround yourself, with kiss-up clones,
You have lying lips, and a Mao Tse tongue.
So cry to your friends, about your corporate sins,
K-Street will always love you.
It's so funny now, as Karma comes to bite,
I'll laugh at your attempt to fight.

So here it goes, I'll count to three
and we'll break the cycle, finally.
You're running out of something new, underneath,
This is why, I have to see you leave.

Hey brother can you spare a dime,
Hey brother can you spare a grand,
Hey brother can you spare a million,
Spend as much as you can.

You wanna buy your freedom.
You wanna keep your head in the sand.
You wanna rewind time.
You wanna fight for crime.

Your philosophy, is hypocrisy,
Just another neocon conman,
You pray for pain, and claim your fame,
Your angel masks are all the same.

So here it goes, I'll count to three
and we'll break the cycle, finally.
You're running out of something new, underneath,
This is why, I have to see you leave.

3. The singer says it's about BugBoy DeLay...
I've only gotten to listen to it once.

It is Very Rock & Roll. You Houstonians should help support them. I listened to both their songs they had posted and they seem like a band I would support if they were from my hometown. Maybe they could get involved in some campaigning for your local candidates, hmmm, perhaps Nick:evilgrin:
I found out about them from Robert Greenwald's site. The singer I think his name is Brian, left a message saying they are a very liberal band and that the song I posted was about BugBoy...

4. I emailed them.
I hadn't heard of them before, and they don't have any shows listed on their website. I'd love to check them out!

5. If you ever get to catch a show
please report back. They seem like an interesting band. Even better because they're liberals like me. Let's hear for us liberals:applause:

Also you want to post their response to your email then that would be groovy. That is if it isn't personal.

7. Hello
Hey Lisa!
This is Brian (a.k.a. the singer/guitarist for Days Drive). It's great to hear from you. We love meeting people through our music. I'm glad to hear that you love our sound and lyrics. As a songwriter, it really means a lot to me when people are moved by my music.

Thanks for the link to this site. It looks like a really cool place...so I couldn't resist joining.

To answer your email...We do have a mailing list (and we just added you). In regards to shows, we currently don't have anything officially scheduled (although we anticipate playing in about 4 - 6 weeks). We are fresh out of the studio, and right now we are focused on getting our music to tv and radio stations around the country. Basically, we're trying to get our music out to as many people as possible and get some buzz going (not just locally, but around the country as well).

In regards to Break the Cycle, while it was written about Delay, it was also created for any other neocon out there. Before Delay dropped out, we were actually going to drive over to his office in Sugarland and drop it off personally...I wonder if he would have smiled as nice as he did for his mugshot ? :) Anyways, now that Delay is out, we would love for this song to pump up other fellow liberals and get them motivated to defeat the neocons that are ruining our country.

In response to MagickMuffin, we would love to help any progressive candidate. We are actually trying to get our music to some senators and Air America. If you all know anyone, we'd love to talk to them about how we can help.

Thanks again for contacting us and please email us anytime. As I said earlier, I love meeting new friends through our music (especially when they're liberal).

Sincerely,
Brian W.

8. Welcome to DU!
:yourock:

Glad to see you decided to drop by! Thanks for the reply. I look forward to seeing a show sometime soon! I've been out of the local music scene a while, but hitting all the local live music venues to see local acts used to be quite a hobby of mine... Emo's, Instant Karma, Fitz, Engine Room, Sidecar, Scout, etc.

And when you do have a show lined up, we'll have a DU meetup and get the Houston crew together to see you!:-)

9. Hey Brian, glad you stopped by and Welcome to DU
Also I'm glad I ran across you at the Greenwald site. You guys have a lot of talent, and deserve to be heard, that's for sure.
I would like to hear more. Need to hear more. Before I purchase music I generally like to hear more than just a couple of songs. I've been burned by supporting bands that only had one or two songs that I liked and the rest of the music didn't have the same impact.
Now I'm not saying that about your band. I'm sure you can understand what I'm getting at by that remark.

At the present time I'm not as pro active as some of the other DUer's, they are some of the best at knowing and helping with candidates campaigns. I will try to promote your music the best way I know how, that is why I posted the info here. Now if more people would just read the thread, I'm sure you would get more local support.
There is a very active Houston DU group, so that shouldn't be a problem...

Besides my blog, I currently work on video production, as well as music. However, the music side is getting alittle neglected. I'm starting to work on a video of a remix of "The Hand That Feeds" by Nine Inch Nails, remixed by someone I met on DU.

I hope you post here often. And once again Welcome to DU:hi:

10. Thanks
I really appreciate you posting about us. I completely understand what you mean by "being burned by bands." That's happened to me a million times as well. I wrote this album to make sure every song on it was something I'd be extremely proud of (so I put a ton of time and personal experiences into it). It has some stuff like Break the Cycle, soft stuff, stuff in between...with songs that are political(Break the Cycle is the most) mixed with songs about love, hypocrisy, hope, etc... If you'd like to hear some other samples, you can check out several more on our CDBaby page... http://www.cdbaby.com/daysdrive So far, we've been getting a good response from people that have bought it. People have been showing their friends, who in turn come back and get a copy of the album (so we've been really pleased so far). We just hope the snowball effect continues, and more and more people discover our music.

On a side note, I find it interesting that you are in video production. We are actually talking right now about doing a music video (nothing is concrete yet). Although, I may have to get some tips from you before we begin :)

Thanks again for spreading the word, and please contact me anytime via email (daysdrive(at)daysdrive.com) or myspace.

That's so true! We are proud, progressive, and ready to change this country for the better. I'm glad Lisa emailed me about this site. DU is a really cool place.

Thanks for the little "You Rock" icon guy. I think I saw him at a show once...Yeah, the yellow floating head with one arm holding a sign...You never forget someone that looks like that ;)

Also, thanks for getting an album. You'll have to tell me what song is your favorite :)

What I heard on your MySpace site sounded really good. I'll be sure to play it on our way to Ft Worth for the State Convention.
