About that dirty cheer at the annual Progressive Populist Caucus meeting..

I was so nervous that I forgot to tie it all together and tell everyone why we were yelling a dirty cheer. I'd hoped to lead it at Borris Miles' victory party but was just too tired to stay more than about 10 minutes after serving as election judge all day. I can't imagine that any judge had a more stressful day than mine as precinct 146 just happens to be in HD 146. Therefore, people from all parts of town were driving to the combined polling location where precincts 14, 146 and 291 voted on April 11.

Interesting observation from the canvass reports in precincts 14, 146 and 291 - with the exception of three votes, the number of votes cast for the incumbent in HD 146 was equal to the number of votes cast for Gene Kelly. So my theory is that only three Democrats voted for the incumbent in HD 146. Haven't had a chance to check the voting history of the folks who voted yet.

Mr. SPL is still editing the pictures. He's slightly perturbed that I didn't tell him I was going to lead the cheer because he didn't catch it on video tape. Was just afraid that if I threw a high kick in at the end - which I backed out on by the way - that I'd pull a hamstring or fall backwards a la Mary Katherine Gallagher.

I did good. You had us on our feet. Heck Sirota even stood up and joined in. It was so funny to watch us clapping and cheering like high school kids.

I know I'll get some of this wrong but here's what I remember:

Beer, beer ice cold beer makes you wanna cheer
Gin, gin ice cold gin makes you wanna win
Duck, duck ice cold duck, makes you wanna ...

We're just going to make you repeat it at our caucus in Fort Worth this summer.

Mr. SPL is still fiddling with the pictures. He has the spirit of an artist - killer guitar player - but he's an engineer.

If we all carried pom poms with us at the state convention. And I'm game for teaching a quick routine.

We're both ROTFLOAO at the idea but I think it's pretty good. Wonder where we can get cheap pom poms?

Experiencing technical difficulties - like I don't know what the F--- I'm doing - and am waiting on the PPC secretary to tell me how to create a gallery so that I can load multiple photos. Don't know what time she got in last night but I'm figuring y'all were out later than us since I backed out on the 6th Street gig. Sorry we missed y'all. I turn into a pumpkin around 10:30 and was beginning to feel the early signs.

We'll see if we can load Sirota's speech tonight or tomorrow.

So glad I had swallowed my coffee and had put the cup down before reading this! I know from painful experience how much it costs to get the 12 inch power book repaired after a liquid spill all over it!

We definitely need to see this at the DU caucus at the state convention! I apologize in advance for having no special talents to share with all of you.

During the weekend I had a chance to meet progressives like David Van Os, the Democratic nominee for Texas Attorney General, state Rep. Garnet Coleman, state Rep. Elliott Naishtat, and the hard-working members of the Progressive Populist Caucus. The disgust with what the right-wing is doing to Texas is palpable - and I came away from my Lone Star State experience feeling hopeful that that state does not have to stay red forever.
