The Democratic Wing of the Democratic Party in Texas
For those few Texans who aren't familiar with the PPC, please take minute to visit http://texaspopulists.com/ and join us.

FWIW, I was elected membership chair of the PPC this weekend at sonias' (Austin, Central TX Regional Chair) suggestion. Other DUer PPC members include Smarty Pants Liberal, VelmaD and PDittie.

5. Great! Let me know when you've signed up.
We have some opportunities coming up for progressive action at the state convention. Will you be there?

8. Done!
I'm interested in learning more about PPC. I haven't heard of an active chapter in Dallas, but look forward to finding out more at the convention.

So what did I just do? Sign up on an email list? Or am I now a card-carrying member, and WHD gets a toaster?

9. I could use a new toaster. LOL
I just pm'd you. There is a leadership gap in the Dallas area.

Yes, you're now a card carrying member, since there are no dues. And of course we'll try to put you to work.

10. Interesting that you should say that....
I wasn't going to say anything because there are many fine DU'ers posting on this thread that I respect but when I asked around up here in Dallas about PPC what I heard was, "Don't bother with them, they just sit around and complain and never do any real work." Apparently it is a different experience in different areas of the state.

11. I guess it depends on the local leadership - sounds
like we need the Dallas DUers to take over!

12. Agreed
It does depend on the local leadership. I would hardly say that the PPC doesn't do anything. This year the PPC and Stan Merriman specifically was very instrumental in getting Texas Party Platform hearings set across Texas. This isn't the PPC doing this, this is the State Democratic Party doing this because the PPC pushed them to do this.

Here is the tentative schedule and more of it is being finalized soon. Most of these hearings will be in May.

Scheduled Platform Hearings 2006

  • April 15: 11am East Texas, El Chico Restaurant
2104 S. First St. Luin, 75901, contact Dennis
    Teal at tealrun@livingston.net for details

  • May 11: Tarrant County in conjunction with
    CEC meeting. Website: www.tcdp.net

  • May 13: 10am Harris County at HCDP
    1445 N. Loop West. Website: www.hcdp.org

  • Dallas County, agreed but awaiting detail

  • Travis County, agreed but awaiting detail

  • South Texas, agreed, but awaiting detail

Check the TDP web site at www.tx.democrats.org in mid-April as more local hearing details are provided. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Stan Merriman at emeritus@texaspopulists.com.

You don't have to be a PPC member to attend and we encourage all Democrats to get involved in these meetings. Make your voices heard.

Sonia
