A Blue Texas Is On The Way.
Maybe not in 2010. Maybe not in 2012. But the last few days and tonight especially have proven one thing; The GOP is running scared to shore up Texas before the 50 State Strategy comes to play here.

1. More and More Hispanics Voting Dem

While some disagree about whether or not Texas is already a Minority Majority state or not, it is agreed by all that within a generation the population of Texas will be mostly Hispanic. And despite their best efforts to drive a wedge between African Americans and Hispanic Americans, more and more minorities in Texas are uniting in common cause.

2. Bush Republicans looking to become big fish in small pond.

There's a LOT of Bush Republicans in relatively long-term national posts who are considering running for state offices. According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram ( http://www.star-telegram.com/legislature/story/1019125.html ) Kay Bailey Hutchison is considering a run for Governor against Rick Perry in 2010. So are several state Reps in the Tarrant County area.

There's two reasons why I can see them being anxious to get out of Washington politics. First, they are well aware how hostile Washington is going to be toward Bush Republicans in the near future. Second, with Rick Perry being so closely tied to Bush and having won the last election mainly because of a three-way split between party-line Democrats, fiscal conservatives and "the just plain pissed-off" Kinky Friedman supporters, they think there's a chance at knocking him out at the primary. When sharks smell blood in the water, they will turn on their own.

3. John Cornyn won because of National Neglect from the Democrats

He sad as much himself last night, according to The Dallas Morning News ( http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/news/politics/state/stories/DN-cornyn_05pol.ART.State.Edition2.4a40f4c.html?npc )

"Our goal was to make sure that it never got so close" as to tempt national Democrats to "dump $5 million or $10 million in our state and succeed.

Howard Dean's 50-state strategy has done a world of good for us Nationally in 2008. But we need to work harder to make people believe that a Texas Democrat isn't an oxymoron so we can get more support from around the country.

4. Vote Flipping In The Big Cities

This story on WIRED ( http://blog.wired.com/27bstroke6/2008/10/straight-party.html ) has been mostly ignored in the wake of all of the other broken electronic voting machines in swing states. And with good reason - it sounds like a paranoid liberal fantasy; Republicans rigging the voting machines in Texas. Why would they need to?

Yes. Why would they need to... unless it was to mask what we - the fighting liberals of Texas already know; that Texas isn't nearly the GOP stronghold that the nation believes it is.

Already the headlines are screaming about how - with all the other losses this election year - at least Texas is still strongly in the red.

For the moment, that may be true. But as another headline this morning said, Change has come to America. And eventually, it will come to Texas.

We have taken a large step forward in taking back our country. Let us now take the first steps in taking back our state.

For Ann. For Molly. For ever.

1. We can look to the inspirational blue of Florida.
I'm hoping some major criminal investigation (perhaps linked to the corruption in our financial sector) will finish what's been started here in Texas. Surely the boy-band of Gramm, Perry, and others (the Backroom Boys), will get tangled up in their own schemes.

BTW Hutchison is a Bush loyalist too and a dangerous GOPer in sheep's clothing.

4. I never said she wasn't...
Just singled her out as the one who is being the most obvious about a retreat into State politics.

2. What we won for Ann Richards
We won her first elected seat - Travis County Commissioner PCT 3 from and incumbent republican. Congratulations to Karen Huber! Ann would be proud!

And Molly would be elated that Travis continues to deepen to darker blue and our blueness spreads to Williamson county where we pick up another Texas House seat held by a republican in the last session HD52

Eye on Williamson blog
HD-52: Diana Maldonado Wins!!!

That’s all that needs to be said!!

BRYAN DANIEL (REP) . . . . . . . 33,820 47.42

DIANA MALDONADO (DEM) . . . . . . 34,668 48.61

5. My victory?
My own Tarrant County is a little more blue... and we've got Bush's new home in Highland Park surrounded.

3. Re: #3
This morning a local commentator observed:

"I would have been a lot more impressed with the 50 state strategy if Texas had been one of the 50 states."

6. Quoted For Truth
Sad, but true. We weren't a priority. But given two years... four years...

7. 24 hours...
We've had almost 24 hours to savor the victory, party some, sober up, and get back to work.

Tomorrow is the first day of the 2010 campaign to rid our great state of GOP varmints!

9. Thank you!
Been lurking for the last couple of months. Great site - lots of energy, intelligence, wit, and humor. Being an ol' fart I'm always a little leery of "going public" these days... But I figured it may be time to get a little more involved. I also like to feel that I (hopefully) have something to add to the dialog. Lifelong Dem - hence the "Yellow Dog."

Thanks for the welcome!

10. You are among friends here
We squabble a bit, but what family doesn't. In Texas we have to do all the heavy lifting ourselves, so we do what we can to educate ourselves here.

Yee Haw!!!
