USAA just raised my home insurance by 21%
And raised my deductible from $1800 to $4000. I am now paying $2300/year. Before deregulation I was paying $800 with a $500 deductible and water, sewer, and foundation damage covered.

sorry bastards

2. Yikes.
Our auto insurance with USAA is the best we've ever had.

Likewise their VISA.

4. So, Can you shop around for another insurance company?.?.?
It seems as though that is the one power we have over these greedy bastards. We have the power of doing business with whomever we choose, unless we are FORCED into staying with a company.

I've never had a mortgage so I don't know the particulars of the insurance part.

Do the lenders force you to keep the same insurance company throughout the mortgage?.?.?

I wish you Luck, john

5. Texas is #1 in homeowner insurance rates
Forbes 8/14/08
Most Expensive States To Insure A Home
(snip)
Texas ranked as the state with most expensive insurance premiums, thanks to wind, rain, hail, tornados and hurricanes.

(snip)
Why So Pricey?
Multiple factors, not necessarily the threat of a single disaster, spike prices. Tornados and floods make headlines, but hail and wind cause more damage in an average year. The combination of all four factors has premiums sky-high in the plains states of Oklahoma and Kansas.

Building costs are another determinant. Insurance pays out at replacement cost--the amount it would take in labor and materials to rebuild the house. In Washington, D.C., labor, regulations and the cost of business drive up construction prices, according to the National Association of Homebuilders.

And it's homebuilders who in turn pass that on to homebuyers. This overhead is eventually reflected in the costs an insurance company would have to pay in repairs.

I'm sure you knew that John. Homebuilders have their filthy hands in everything.

Tips to Phillip Martin at BOR for the link The Struggling Texas Economy, Part II: The Homeowner.

7. USAA has always been good on auto, not so good on homeowners.
Maybe try Amica?
