Urgent - Computer repair help needed |
|
My laptop was apparently damaged in a car wreck last week, and I need to see about finding a good but relatively cheap repair service that can open up the laptop and see what got jarred loose. Geeks On Call charges a bare minimum of $99 - too high for me right now.
I want to use the laptop during my duty as a poll greeter on Election Day, so any help or recommendation is warmly welcomed!

1. Near Houston or Richardson TX? |

Goto MicroCenter (www.microcenter.com). While I do not know their rates, they do good work.

2. Open it up with a screwdriver. |

There's a ribbon cable that attaches to the hard drive and motherboard. The hard drive end of it is notoriously jar-worthy. It will look out of place. Check the battery too. If you're careful and have a place to work on it you might be able to intuitively check all the connections. I have done so a few times and saved some repair $$$.

3. I'd better let someone else open it up first |
|
I tried removing all the screws, but apparently there's still some left I haven't found yet.

What kind of laptop is it? (Make, Model etc)
I used to do computer work and tech support for a living.

If you'd be able to take a peek, that would be way cool.

I've checked all my tech manuals, and the Tecras' are one of the few manuals I don't have.
I'm really sorry to get your hopes up like that.

8. I have only used a repair service once, and it was Best Buy. |
|
They did a good job. It was an easy fix, so maybe that was it. But still, they fixed it, and the cost was reasonable.
