INCOME TAXES: Make rich pay, says Fort Worth Democrat

Rep. Lon Burnam, D-Fort Worth, has called for a tax of 3 percent on Texans who make $1 million or more a year. It would generate $1.2 billion a year in state revenue.

"This is a fair way to cut property taxes while providing more revenue for our public schools," Burnam said in a statement.

The Texas Constitution provides that two-thirds of any revenue generated by an income tax be used for property tax relief, Burnam said.
