and he sounds very liberal, surprising for Utah, imo, but I could be wrong. He even advocated a Canadian style health system for the US. Any chance he could upset Bennett?

1. I think the odds are very slim...
I haven't seen any campaign ads on tv, very few signs and I just don't think he has the name recognition to pull off the upset in a statewide race.

The last polls I saw had Bennett leading 62-19 or something like that.

It appears that the only Dem in the Utah delegation will be Rep. Jim Matheson once again. I am hoping that Scott Matheson Jr. can win the governer race but not counting on it.

2. Van Damm is a liberal Dem.
Wouldn't it be great if he beat Bennet? Very unlikely, though. It sucks how right-wing Utah is.

3. Hatch could propose creating gulags and still win
Hatch has become the height of hypocracy to me. He always yells about how investigations into Republicans are politically motivated but investigations into Democrats are to get to the truth. He complains about 10 judicial appointments being held up as Democratic obstructionism of Bush appointments but intentionally created a backlog to avoid confirming Clinton appointees. I used to think he had some principles but not any more.

4. What's sad?
When Hatch ran against Moss a few decades ago he ran on the platform of change. Said Moss had been in too long and we needed a fresh face.

Uh huh...
