Laura Bonham announces intent to run for Utah State Democratic Party Vice Chair
Today, Laura Bonham of Coalville UT announced her decision to run for the position of Vice Chair of the Utah State Democratic Party. Bonham has a long history of community participation, which includes membership on the Coalville City Planning Commission, Citizens Allied for Responsible Growth, and the Coalville Area Business Association. She is currently the Secretary of the Summit County Democrats, and the Co-Chair of the Utah Democratic Progressive Caucus. Bonham is best known for her recent challenge for State Representative in District 53 against incumbent Dave Ure.
“It is time for the rank and file of this party to reclaim its voice and elect leadership that reflects our Democratic values”, said Ms. Bonham. “It is our party, after all. We have been arguing the Republican Party’s agenda far too long, and it has cost us election after election. We should not be trying to out-republican the Republicans, but articulate a clear Democratic message that provides the voter with a stark distinction between business as usual and the business of the people.”
Ms. Bonham further commented “ Democrats believe in the most fundamental democratic principles of life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. It is up to us to create a ‘more perfect union’ instead of arguing issues that the Republican Party has created to divide us as a party and a nation.”
Bonham is a wife and mother of two grade school children, operates her own business, and has background in education and ranching. She hopes to be part of an executive committee that is willing to roll up its sleeves, get to work, and build a viable party. One that wins elections by clearly articulating the Democratic values of good jobs with good pay, health care for all, small business development, agricultural preservation, and high quality public education.
