I just received the following from Craig and Laura:
Last night the UDPC hosted a town hall meeting on Social Security featuring a video presentation by Congressman Dennis Kucinich. Following the presentation, Congressman Kucinich called in and took questions from many of those in attendance. We thank the Congressman for taking time out of his busy schedule to talk with us for about 45 minutes regarding this and other important issues.
Two copies of the Congressman's Social Security presentation were made available and were taken by individuals willing to share it with friends, co-workers and other groups. The presentation clearly put the lie to President Bush's claims Social Security is in a state of "crisis" and his arguments in favor of "privatization". To receive a copy of Congressman Kucinich's DVD or learn more about his position on the Social Security issue please visit his website at
http://www.kucinish.us .
In response to the last night's town hall meeting, the UDPC's new secretary Ellen Birrell has generously offered to host a BBQ on International Justice Day . Please see the announcement below for details. The video presentation we showed last night will again be shown at that event. We hope you can join us for this fun and informative evening on June 15th. Thank you.

Help Stop Funding for the Nevada Test Site and the "Bunker Buster"
From: HEAL Utah
In early May, two congressional House committees blocked the administration_s plans for the nuclear "bunker buster" and reduced funding for making the Nevada Test Site ready to conduct nuclear blasts more quickly. While this is good news, we now need the Senate to follow suit. The Senate has still not made up its mind on whether or not to ditch the Bush administration_s plans to research a new nuclear bomb called the nuclear "bunker buster." This weapon, if ever used, could lead to a million deaths, according to a recent study by the National Research Council. Most casualties would be civilians. Our Senator, Bob Bennett, is a member of the Senate Energy and Water Appropriations Subcommittee that holds the purse-strings for these programs. He will cast the deciding vote scheduled for Tuesday, June 14, to decide whether or not the United States will ramp up the Nevada Test Site and resume research into new nuclear weapons. If you have not already done so, contact Sen. Bennett today:
(202-224-5444 _ DC; 801-524-5933 _ Salt Lake City) You can email him by going to:
http://bennett.senate.gov/contact/email_opinion.cfm Ask him what his plan is to eliminate the $25 million request for the _advanced_ readiness at the Nevada Test Site, and Urge him to eliminate funds for the bunker buster. New nuclear weapons will not make the world more secure. Developing new nuclear weapons sends a message to the rest of the world that nuclear weapons are usable. This undermines U.S. and global security.
At a time when our government is on the verge of handing out IOUs to Downwinders, we should not be spending millions of dollars on new nuclear programs that could create a second generation of Downwinders. Because this issue is so urgent and Sen. Bennett will play a key role, please pass this message on to your family and friends. Thanks for your help!
