1. I don't think the LDS have to worry about him being a United Methodist,
because he is one in name only. The UMC is actually a very liberal denomination. They are pro-choice, and were one of the sponsors of the recent March for Women's Lives in DC. They oppose the war in Iraq. They are fighting so much about gay rights and recognition of gays that some United Methodists are talking about a split in the church. (They do not support gay rights currently).

Shrub does not act like he belongs to my church. He acts like a born again, Bible-thumping fundamentalist. I am ashamed that he says he belongs to my church.

If any LDS were to question him about whether or not he regards them as a cult, he would probably run to Rove for an answer. Actually, I hope someone does. It would really put him in hot water.

2. I've been wondering if the Methodists would split
on the gay issue. It wouldn't be the first time that John Wesley's church split. I believe that the Weslian Church and the Salvation Army are both offshoots of the Methodist Church. I recall when it was the Methodist Episcopal Church (called that because of church structure) and it joined with United Brethren to become the United Methodist Church. So there have been lots of changes. One more wouldn't surprise me at all.

4. Baptists did
if the Methodists did, they either joined together after the War or the southern branch took on a different name. Sorry I don't know more.

5. I heard from a reliable source...
The "prophet" is a democrat.

One must note the irony in being pro-war and pro-life.

7. Hinckley a Democrat?
I, too, have heard that President Hinckley was a Democrat. I read it on the Mormons for Equality and Social Justice/Mormon_Congress Yahoo Group. The poster said something like President Hinckley had told a Repub politician that he used to be a registered Democrat. And the poster also said that Hinckley's family had strong ties to the Dem party, which makes sense, considering Utah's political history. Also, I read that Boyd K. Packer used to be a registered Democrat, and of course we all know James E. Faust is. I have yet to find proof for Hinckley, but it wouldn't surprise me!
