Police: Utah teacher fatally shot in parking lot
Source: AP

SALT LAKE CITY – Police say an assistant preschool teacher has been shot and killed as she was leaving a Salt Lake City-area school.

Unified Police Lt. Don Hutson says a 70-year-old woman has been arrested in the case. He says it's not clear whether the woman and the teacher knew each other.

Hutson says several shots were fired at the 34-year-old teacher as she was driving away from the school on Friday. Police have not identified the victim.

No students were at the Salt Lake CAP Head Start school classroom site at the time of the shooting.

Police say the teacher was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

11. Based on her name, I'm going to take a wild guess that the victim was
a Russian mail order bride who divorced an abusive husband, and the shooter is somehow related to her ex.

Also sounds like the murderer would've persevered, whether she had a gun or not.

67. The story gets stranger the more I read about it
The shooter was the dead woman's former mother in law. The dead woman and her ex-husband had two young children. The ex-husband took in teen age foster boys and Nikitina was frightened for the safety of her own children. The victim and her ex-husband have eastern European names--the shooter has what I would consider a more common Utah name.

http://www.deseretnews.com/article/700005762/Teacher-fatally-shot-in-parking-lot.html

At least she had the gun handy I guess, made it a lot easier for her. I mean think about it, if she drove home to get the gun, load it, and then drive back to the school she might have changed her mind. Thank goodness she had a carry permit, that saved her a lot of gas. :sarcasm:

54. Just say cars don't kill people, just say it.
And just admit that you find guns scary and that is the real bottom line for you. Noting else matters to you, including the fact that my 93 year old aunt kept an intruder from smashing through her front door by shooting at him with her .38 revolver.

Just admit that you don't care at all if guns actually save more people than they hurt. And admit that you don't care if cars kill more people than guns. You don't like guns, and you don't care what they actually do, you want them to all go away. Just admit it.

It seems likely the killer was related to the abusive ex- (or separated) husband of the victim. More likely arguments about custody, the accusations of abuse etc.

59. I think either the victim was being really nasty in her divorce,
and made the husband and his family crazy, OR the husband was painting her that way.

I've seen divorces get so very crazy. I've seen women try to wipe out their husbands by making up stories about abuse and all kind of stuff, it makes the husbands want to kill them. And I have also seen husbands completely loose it and make up the most ridiculous stuff.

I know one woman who filed assault charges against her husband and got him kicked out of their big farm house, and then started slowly killing the animals and playing dumb about how they were dieing. She killed his dog first.

68. My first thought when I read this yesterday
Edited on Sun Jan-31-10 12:04 PM by truth2power
was, "Look at the Civil Protection Order." I'll bet that's where the root of this lies, in one way or another.

I heard one lawyer refer to the CPO as a "Hillbilly Divorce." That is, the wife alleges abuse, has the husband thrown out of the home and away she goes with everything he owns, leaving him penniless. I think the CPO is one of the most often abused DR Court actions.

Typically, the court believes, on its face, whatever the woman alleges on her affidavit and doesn't even bother to consider that there may be another side. Women can embroil their husbands/ex-husbands in litigation for years, fighting over absolutely nothing at all.

Women are not always victims. Some are just, well......grifters.
