From the Mass border to the Canadian border, Vermonters voted democratic. Sure, we retained our very moderate republican Governor, and slightly less moderate, Lt Gov, but even the Northeast Kingdom, the most conservative part of the state voted largely for Kerry.
We decisively took back the state house, and increased our hold on the Senate The House is now 83 dems, 60 repubs, and progressives 6. The Senate will be 21 dems and 9 repubs. Right wingnut Nancy Sheltra from the Kingdom was defeated by a Progressive, Winston Dowland. Jane Kitchel, Health and Human Service Sec. under Dean, and one of the Dean dozen, also won in the Kingdom, defeating repub Bernier Mayo.
Bernie Sanders and Pat Leahy won by huge margins 69% and 70% respectively. Attny General Bill Sorrell also won handily.
Vermonters overwhelmingly rejected bush. According to exit polls, 6 out of 10 Vermonters were against the Iraq War to begin with. Over a third of Vermonters voted against bush rather than for Kerry.
