Party at Ben's House!
Sign up at TrueMajority for more info!

Dear TA,

We always knew 2006 could be the year we take our country back, and this week the media is starting to catch on too1. We've been helping out progressive candidates all year as they build up steam to take back Congress in this fall's election -- now's the time to really pour it on!

We're kicking off our two-month "Take it Back" push with (what else) a party. TrueMajorityAction President and Ben&Jerry's Ice Cream co-founder Ben Cohen is hosting, and it's a fundraiser for two of the most rock-solid progressive candidates running this year: Bernie Sanders and Peter Welch.

Even if you can't make it to Vermont for the party, you can still keep these campaigns cookin'. Other TrueMajorityACTION members have already kicked in more than $15,000 for these two guys; our goal is to hit $25,000 by Saturday.

Ben, Jerry and their friends are donating the fried turkey, the ice cream and the music – can you donate $25 to help take back Congress?

You won't find two candidates who are more in line with our values.

Bernie Sanders, running for the open U.S. Senate seat in Vermont, has been the most consistent advocate of working people in Congress during his years in the House. He was one of the first to speak out against the Iraq War, and he was fighting to restore the liberties erased by the "USA Patriot" Act back when no one else dared to speak up. His opponent is a multimillionaire who has already spent more of his own money than has ever been put on any election in state history.

Peter Welch is running for the U.S. House seat Bernie is leaving behind. As President Pro-Tem of Vermont Senate, he too has spoken out early and often against the Iraq disaster. Peter was also one of the first endorsers of the Common Sense Budget Act, which would take some of the taxes we currently pay to defense contractors for obsolete Cold War weapons and shift it to healthcare and education. He's in a tight race with a former National Guard general being pushed by the national Republican Party.
