Could Bernie Sanders win elsewhere?

Hello, Vermonters,

I would like to ask if you think Bernie Sanders could win in other places in this country, if the two qualifications I frequently cite for his political success are present:
1. People got to know him through his various campaigns, both successful and unsuccessful.
2. People didn't care if he was a "socialist", as long as they thought that he would fight for their economic interests.

I ask this because a former co-worker always argued that his largest group of supporters came from the "new Vermonters", whereas I had heard that his biggest support came from working people.

Who is right?

people in Vermont aren't as concerned about party affiliation as they are about deeds... Bernie would have a difficult time getting elected elsewhere... he has become synonymous with Vermont, early on making a name for himself as Mayor of Burlington.

Sanders is a much needed counter balancing voice in Washington, particularly in this crazy era of loud and ignorant rightwing folks screaming to remove their own constitutional rights and their ability to receive help from their government and to instill their own brand of religion into our laws! Hopefully, I will live long enough to see the political pendulum swing back into the fold of strong liberals and progressives which would include MORE Bernie Sanders across our country.

it depends on the state. I think he would have a chance in more liberal states like Washington or Maine but personally I'm just happy he's in the senate.

As for your friends argument, can they really speak for all of the "Old Vermonters"? I think he receives support from all Vermonters, whether they are old vermonters, new vermonters, working people, or even conservatives because they like what he stands for. He stands up for the middle class and what he believes is best in the long run without any sort of outside influence.
