Mars Hill Pastor Apologizes For Being Colossal Ass
A protest in Ballard Sunday against an Evangelical pastor's rhetoric about women was called off after a local citizens group said the pastor agreed to tone it down, if not abandon his philosophy.

Pastor Mark Driscoll, who founded Mars Hill Church, issued a statement on his Web site saying he hasn't changed his philosophy about women's roles, but he was "sad and sorry to hear that various things I have said over the years have been received very personally by some people who felt personally attacked."

<...>

In another blog entry, Driscoll reinforced the concept of a Holy Trinity - "Father, Son and Spirit. But some chicks and some chickified dudes with limp wrists and minors in 'women's studies' are not happy because two persons of the trinity have a dude-ish ring."

In another entry, Driscoll expounded on the recent appointment of a woman as an Episcopalian bishop, saying that "if Christian males do not man up soon, the Episcopalians may vote a fluffy baby bunny rabbit as their next bishop to lead God's men."

<...>

The rest of the article is worth the read. This guy is incredible. He blames Ted Haggard's wife for his homosexuality - apparently she did not make herself sexually available enough and therefore drove her husband to use meth and have gay sex.

1. I read the article
It did't sound like Driscoll is really sorry. I think he's just feeling the heat. I doubt that brother Haggards troubles can be blamed on his wife. They have five kids, so it doesn't exactly seem like she was making him beg for it. She is, besides, a fine looking woman.

3. I agree.
He's not sorry for anything, and his brainless parishioners applaud his ridiculous "Bible-based" misogyny. This is the problem with unstructured evangelism: it gives the individual pastor too much power in interpreting the Christian message and allows him to insert his prejudices into his sermons with no oversight from a higher ecclesiastical authority. It's telling that Seattle Pacific's theology department came out strongly against him - there appears to be some consensus that the garbage this person is selling has no spiritual basis.

Since Ernst Hardware supply closed it,s doors. Good old Ernest- A little sheet rock for the soul-, some nails,a little paint for some fresh cleanliness-, you know how it is- or how it is a little work is good for the soul.

And the preacher at every department ,be it paint or lumber-roofing or you leaking water tank.
Always there to remind you of the evil that lurks within for those who denie that preventitive maintnance is the one right way. Electrifying ,such as it was threw the depertments preachings ,only to feel the switch- indeed, from one problematic area in your home to another.

Yes indeed the church of hardware. Hard work pays off in O- so many ways.

Good old Ernest!

6. He didn't apologize for anything he said,
he apologized that people took what he said "personally." Typical passive-aggressive bullshit - "it's not MY fault if you're so sensitive you don't like being called fat, or ugly, or evil, or ineffectual."

This whole cult of personality around the megachurch demagogues like Driscoll makes me incredibly uneasy. It's all too easy for these unscrupulous bastards to basically brainwash their followers into believing and repeating the most egregious horseshit. No actual Christian should set himself up as a figure of worship the way Driscoll does.

7. In other words...
That he felt "sad and sorry to hear that various things I have said over the years have been received very personally by some people who felt personally attacked" really means that "It is your fault you were offended by my speaking the Holy Word of God, you femi-nazi worshipper of Satan, you."

Typical non-apology we've been getting from Falwell, Robertson and other Talibangelicals for years.

8. Here's my LTTE to the Times about this...
So, the Excruciatingly Reverend Mark Driscoll believes that pastor's wives who "let themselves go" are partially responsible for their husbands beginning liaisons with gay prostitutes, and warns of the dire consequences "if Christian males do not 'man up' soon."

"Man up"...? What in heaven's name does this sort of "Christianity" have to do with Jesus or his teachings?

Bravo to the Times for dropping Pastor Driscoll's soapbox in your paper. Hopefully, next time, you can find an evangelical writer who has some acquaintance with the Gospel.

Needless to say, they didn't publish it. :-(

9. Great letter, though!
If it's any consolation, I wrote them one about the article on the John Marshall school fiasco (published Dec. 11) and they didn't run it either. I guess they'd rather publish a zillion letters about airport Christmas trees. :eyes:

10. I refuse to be a part of any religion created by men, for the benefit of men.
Women are treated so badly in most religions... He's just mouthing what so many of those people believe. And his non-apology was total bullshit.
