Scarecrow Video buyer's home crushed by tree during storm, narrowly missing kids.
You probably heard the harrowing tale of the baby who barely missed being crushed by the tree that fell on her crib minutes after her mom removed her from the room. It's just one of many awful stories from last week's storm. Mark Steiner's family needs help for the holidays and they are also looking for any contractors to help them get started on home repairs. Scarecrow has set up a fund for them. You can donate online or at Scarecrow, at 50th and Roosevelt. Skinner has kindly given me permission to post about this here. As a cinephile and loyal Scarecrow customer, I was very sad to hear this and hope Mark and his family can move back into their home soon.

1. A few years ago, there was a fire at Reckless Video
That store, and all the others in the row, burned down. It was right before Thanksgiving. I remember that they had a donation jar set up at Snappy Dragon for all those left unemployed before the holidays. If I go by there, I'll stop in and donate - thanks for the info.

3. Reckless Video actually re-opened
though none of the other businesses did. They finally just tore down the shell of the building this year - Maple Leaf is going condo crazy at the moment.

4. That seems to be happening everywhere.
I don't even recognize my old neighborhood (Ballard) anymore. :(
