Shovel your walks, already!!!!
Honestly, we walked up Roosevelt to Safeway last Saturday, and the number of people (or condo or apartment owners) who shovel the sidewalks in front of their houses is not even 50%.

Isn't there a municipal law about this? Where the idiots don't shovel, there is compacted ice. Not fun when you're walking downhill with groceries.

Of course, these are the same charmers who don't remove leaves off their sidewalks in the fall, which get slippery after a couple of days of rain.

As a pedestrian, jogger, dog-walking person, I implore you, KEEP YOUR SIDEWALKS CLEARED!!!!

Thank you.

1. Why don't you just slip, break a leg, and sue someone
Word will travel fast then

2. I just looked up the municipal codes
I couldn't find anything about requiring people to shovel sidewalks. But I wish someone would come over and shovel mine. I have cancer and just had foot surgery and it would be helpful. It's a sheet of ice in front of my house. My porch too.

3. That's terrible. Do you have rock salt?
At least for your porch?

It sounds as if you have extenuating circumstances, but for those who don't - they should be clearing off those walks.

Now it's gone. Geez - will this snow ever end? :banghead:

On edit - One thing I really hate is people who don't brush giant piles of snow off their cars before they drive so the snow flies in your windshield. Isn't that just common courtesy too? I try to more or less do my best clean the car off before I go out, when I do.

5. Oh, I know!
They showed some lady on the news Thursday morning who had somehow landed in a ditch backwards trying to get on to the highway. She claims she just tapped her breaks and she didn't understand what happened.

They showed her car. No one was in it. The engine was running and the windshield wipers were going. Other than the two spots where the wipers were, there were about eight inches of snow covering the rest of her car, INCLUDING THE SIDE WINDOWS. Not to mention the back windows.

Even if she didn't have a snow brush, she must have had a broom at home. I am from Michigan and no one goes out with their car covered in snow, and many people use brooms to knock the snow off.

6. OMG
Is it wrong to laugh?

When I had to go to a PT appt. early last Friday I spent about a half-hour scraping/clearing the car. Common sense, people, common sense! :D

7. Don't worry
We all laughed our heads off. Funnily, they showed the woman, and put her name in quote marks for some reason. Her name, or her SUPPOSED name, was "Dianne". It reminded me of the old Chris Farley sketch. I'm not "the norm"! I live in "a van" down by "the river".

Did you see the guy on a bicycle or scooter (hard to tell which under his poncho) who said he had to miss work because of the stomach flu but also had to be out in the snow because he had to pick up his wife? On what? The scooter? How was she going to fit under his poncho?

8. Oh, I'm sorry I missed that
But KIRO kept replaying the guy in the Mazda Tribute skidding off the road and into a sign. You know, just because you have 4-wheel drive doesn't mean you can go 70 mph on a sheet of ice. :D

9. LOLOL - the over and over again clip - Seattle news staple!!!!
Edited on Tue Jan-16-07 06:26 PM by LisaM
I would say we had the worst news in the country, but unfortunately my family lives near Lansing, Michigan and really, it's no contest. Once they had a guy sitting on top of a truck (one truck) full of bales of hay they were sending to assuage a livestock feeding crisis in the south due to drought. The truck had a big sign that said, "Michigan Farmers Helping Out!" and there was Art Timmerman (sort of the Jim Foreman of the Lansing area, the guy who was sent out in every ridiculous situation and never advanced in his career) sitting on top of all the bales.

Once they showed him on the opening day of hunting season (big deal in mid-Michigan) wearing bright orange hunting gear to make the announcement that the season was on. My father and I just about fell out of our chairs laughing.
