WA Hidden Shopping Secrets
I'm making my monthly visit to PFI this week and am amazed that so many folks don't know about this place.

http://amasci.com/pfi/

They have THE BEST prices on all sorts of imported items and have a terrific cheese counter. I'm able to get things here that I can't get elsewhere in PNW.

Anyone else care to share their little secret shopping spots. I'm still looking for a real "East Coast" Bakery or even a joint where I can get a Rhum Baba.

2. Sent a link to my son who lives in Bellevue.
His wife is Polish. Do you know if they have Polish food?

3. They'd have better luck with that at some of the "european deli's"
Can't find a decent pirogie here to save your life. This joint is mostly mediteranean though it's hit and miss with what you can get there. It's like a scavenger hunt everytime I go. I love their filo and the Cheese......

6. You know what I have trouble finding here?
Good coleslaw. You'd think they'd never heard of it. Very few delis have it, and you can't get it at the grocery store if the deli has closed (basically, after 8:00 p.m.) WHY IS SEATTLE ANTI-COLESLAW? LOL.

And don't even try telling me about those crazy Asian-themed coleslaws. They may be fine in their way, but I want good old-fashioned deli style slaw.

7. The best coleslaw in WA is in Sequim
At a restaurant called Gwennies. Their food is good but the coleslaw is suburb thanks to a bit of horse radish they add.

Ezells chicken joints also makes a pretty good coleslaw

But alas there are no "REAL" Deli's here that I've been happy with. You can't even find decent cold cuts unless you go with Boars Head if you can find it. What I wouldn't give for good deli roast beef on real rye bread.

But on the other hand we have terrific produce and all that fantastic salmon... So I can't complain.

I'm still looking for a decent bakery. Hilltop in Bothell is the best I've found on the Eastside but they don't do Italian pastries. The French Bakery in Silver Lake is good for pastries but they don't do the Italian ones like Cannolli or Baba Rhums.

8. And you can't get Italian water ices, either.
Not the same as gelato.

Rex's Deli on 2nd has Boars Head meats.

Alas I live in Snohomish Co. and rarely food shop in Seattle except for my monthly visit to pfi.

I do have a great NY Pizza connection and a fabulous NY style Italian american restaurant up here.
