Help Rescue a sweet dog
My daughter lives in Bremerton and is moving to a new apartment May 1. She and her SO have to find a home for their dog, Haley.

Haley is a sweet bulldog and "a great snuggle buddy." She is really smart, can roll over, sit, and do short division and simple algebra. (OK, I made that part up about the algebra}

Haley lost her back right leg to a car several months ago.

If anyone is interested, please email me and I will put you in touch with my daughter Lori.

4. then they shouldn't take that apartment
i don't want to be a dick, but i couldn't give away a special needs dog. they have a real challenge - considering it is a female pit bull on top of only having 3 legs.

i believe that she is a 'sweet dog', but the pool of potential homes is really really small for a dog like that. its going to be someone with multiple dogs & no kids. they should keep looking - a small house in bremerton would be a better choice.

5. In the meantime we are looking for a new home
THAT is the reason I posted here: to see if someone could give me some help on that.

I am not going to get into a discussion here of the reasons that they are not able to care for the dog. Their situation needs no defense from me.

The fact is that they are loking for another home for the dog. If you can provide some information which will help with that, We would be most appreciative.

6. they likely already know the channels
petfinders. humane societies.

this article will probably help:

http://www.seattleweekly.com/2007-04-11/news/pet-rescue-underground-railroad-won-t-leave-a-dog-behind.php

we had a woman at my office who moved to australia & gave away her 10 year old pit/bullmastiff because of australia's quarantine policies. it really disturbed me that she would do that, or even consider it. so i'm sensitive to this issue.

8. Adoption for dogs perhaps?
PAWS a agency run by animal rights people -has solutions to such problems and places and people to call.

It,s a matter of getting in touch with the right people- those that know and understand that particular breed.

I would suggest you get in touch with PAWS- look it up in the phone book and they will put you in touch with the right people.

9. maybe better luck looking for a foster?
some people might be tempted but reluctant, especially if they have other pets. the idea of fostering for a few days, a week is more doable sounding to some people, and if you can get a couple of foster homes that could help with the meantime part, and sometimes fosters get attached to the pet and end up keeping them despite themselves. also, offering to help with food and vet bills could help alot with finding someone, if the family is willing to do that (tho it sounds like they are having financial troubles).

I posted in this forum, and other places, about a month ago looking for a foster for a cat I had meant to keep at home just for a couple of days to recover from being spayed. I knew my older cat would not welcome a new roommate but figured a couple days with the visitor in a separate room would be ok. so, long story short, no responses anywhere I posted and I didn't have the heart to release her back into the elements, so she is still here. She has really blossomed and I am attached, but my older cat is still unhappy, adjustment can take awhile so I'll give it a bit more time, but she is joy to have around in the meantime. If I could I waould have a taken her brothers doo, but there is only so much we can do...

10. PAWS is a orginization that
Edited on Sun May-06-07 04:17 PM by Wash. state Desk Jet
Helps people find homes for animals that present difficulties in finding homes for. Bull dogs- German Shepards- dalmations- tempermental breeds that would be put down because of temperment.

Such orginizations are for the animals and are highly efficent in helping people that are working for the best intrest of a domistic animal.

The foster care aspect in it is all about a temporary stay for the animal until a permenent home can be found. In the for instance of a bull dog -a family that already has a bull dog or bull dogs would keep the animal and safe and sound until PAWs could find a permenent home-in a family that completely understands and has ownned that particular breed.

PAWS is a animal rights orginization.
If you were to seriously look at it-you would than inturn understand beyound your question.By looking at it I mean look deep into it-perhaps even go there. Do at least call them. It,s a cool orginization freepless-supported by veterinarians all across the state-in fact they run the show.

Do a little homework and you will see.(!)

11. what's my question?
Edited on Tue May-15-07 12:04 AM by freeplessinseattle
PAWS is well known is these parts, but this time of years is hard to find fosters, and I would rather wait a bit to see if my older cat takes to her, from what I've read it can take time, so maybe in a couple months I'll give them a shout.

I might give them a call though to see if they happen to have a transition cage I have been trying to find for two weeks for kittens I am relocating. This time of year is the worst.

edit: ok, on second reading maybe you were in fact responding to me, I was confused bc it seemed to do more with the OP, but maybe you are responding to my subject line? in an obtuse way:)

down that avenue, than mabe there is information in it you can use!
There are people in these orginizations that can answer almost any question related to animals!
