Newborn abandoned at Federal Way church
Source: Komotv.com

FEDERAL WAY, Wash. -- Police here are looking for the mother of a newborn boy found on the steps of a church Monday afternoon.

Police spokeswoman Jennifer McNeill said the baby was left in a basket at the Calvary Lutheran Church on 320th Street between 2 p.m. and 3:20 p.m.

Sherry Ricks found the baby boy in a white basket outside the church's back door. What she originally thought was a doll was instead a newborn only a few hours old.

He was placed on top of a white knit blanket with a hand-written note from the mother who named her son Jayden.

I'm only posting this because something actually good happened in the USA. A rarity.

3. My thought exactly. I thought we had a law/statute/whatever here
that said a teen/woman could drop her baby off at a safe place if she felt she could not take care of the baby, no questions asked.

I agree; leave the poor woman alone. She left the baby in a place she knew he would be found safely; she didn't dump him in a trash can like has happened before.

6. We do have that law, but
the back door of a church is not on the 'safe place' list, for obvious reasons.

4. From KING-5 a few minutes ago, they want to find her
because they are concerned that she is so young and may need some post-natal care. They are not looking to arrest her or anything.

5. I hope not. I'm all for getting her the care she needs, but beyond that,
they should leave her alone. She did the best she could.
