Minutemen in Everett
Everett and Snohomish County have finally become "ground zero" in the immigration debate here in WA. Republican Presidential Candidates have personally validated Snohomish County and Everett City Council local candidates' racist world view for upcoming local elections. Republican "wing nuts" and their anti-immigrant extremists allies have now brought the fight to you. (Why here?)

One had to read last Sunday's Seattle Times' article ("Summit" brings immigration debate to Everett) just to get a sense of what's happening up here. The Everett Herald gave short shrift to the facts of this matter regardless of how much I told them at the protest on Saturday. Even showing the Herald Reporter print outs from Shawna Forde's "homegrown" racist website did not raise his interest. http://www.minutemenamericandefense.com/

The reporter even asked me "who the Washington State Democrats" are. You'll note that he still cited us as "the Seattle-based Washington State Democrats" in his story. I guess I should feel fortunate that they covered the story at all. Herald management told me last month that they "wouldn't cover" my community (non-fundraising) meeting with Gov. Richardson in May because it took place in Seattle.

But what about The Herald's Spanish-language weekly, "La Raza del Noroeste"? (They wouldn't cover the Richardson story either?!?!) After protests from the Latino community for NOT covering the event this past Saturday (even though they more or less promoted it along with their parent paper the Herald last week) they now claim they're going to provide a translation of the Herald's article this Friday. A week after the event.!?! Translating a story not even written for the Hispanic community they hope to provide the news to. ¡Que lastima!

Snohimish County Democratic Party Chair Mark Hintz has consented to work with the Democratic Latino Caucus and other social justice groups to address the political consequences of this growing threat in Snohomish County. Please contact Mark or myself if you or your organization would like to join us.
