Tourist Alert for Washington State DUers
It's time for my annual get away from the job/family/Sacramento ride. This year I'm planning on riding out to the coast and taking it all the way up the Oregon and Washington coasts to the Olympic Peninsula. I'm anticipating stops in Arcata (to visist briefly with my youngest son), Lincoln City (visit an old high school friend), Westport and then Clallam Bay. I'm not sure of my return route, but I'm thinking of riding down the west side of the Sound to Gig Harbor and then to Olympia, Vancouver, etc.

Any suggestions for things to do and places to see?

Thanks
Semi

1. Port Townsend
It's on the Northeast corner of the penninsula. Wonderful little town, nice shops and restaurants, restored hotels. It will be overun with tourists (like you) but it is still a fun place. If you have time hop on the ferry to Whidbey Island. From there you can drive over Deception Pass (spectacular if you haven't been there) then get on I-5 to head down through Seattle.

It's freeway repair season so the last part will suck, but I like my hometown.

3. Thanks
When I rode to Anacortes a couple of years ago, I rode the ferry from, I think, Oak Harbor to Port Townsend. It was the nicest 1/2 hour of my 2400 mile ride. The same morning of the ferry ride, my semi-adopted son took me up to Deception Pass. It's incredible. I'm trying my best to stay off I-5 anywhere in the vicinity of Seattle. Last time up it was congested from Ft. Lewis to just north of Seattle, and I got to use the carpool lanes.
