Union documentary available
Some time ago, my union completed a chronicle of the struggle we had during 2002 contract negotiations. It is on a DVD. The DVD is about one hour long.

The video describes collusion between various retailers, the employer group (foreign and domestic shipping lines, and waterfront terminal operators) with whom we were negotiating, and the Bush Administration. Their unholy troika was established to try to defeat us.

The array of government threats and attempts to intimidate us is wickedly revealed in the video.

Another astonishingly revealing fact is that a "hit man" for the Bush administration told the union that we were high on the administration's list of concerns because the Bush mob did not want a labor dispute on the West Coast docks at a time when the US was planning to go to war on Iraq. Hey, hey, hey....this was in October of 2002! The attack on Iraq did not begin until March of 2003! Duh! The war was a foregone conclusion!

The video also describes how the union developed a strategy to overcome government interference in what was (on the union's part) good faith negotiations.

So....anyone want to see the flick? Let me know. This is not a pitch for dough. I'll be happy to bring the DVD to a venue that is not too far away from Skagit County.
