Girl, 15, shot and sexually assaulted

TACOMA, Wash. -- A 15-year-old Orting girl was shot and sexually assaulted Friday night, and Pierce County sheriff's deputies say an 18-year-old man has been arrested.

Sheriff's Detective Ed Troyer said Travis Gillihan was booked into the Pierce County Jail Saturday evening on one count of 1st degree attempted murder and 1st degree rape.

Gillihan pleaded not guilty to both counts at his arraignment Monday afternoon and a judge ordered him held on $1 million bail.

Court documents say the girl snuck out of the house to go to a party with Gillihan Friday night, but when they left, he instead took her to a wooded area outside of Orting, got her out of the truck and then shot her four times. He then put her back in the truck and raped her, prosecutors say.

The part of the story missing from the excerpt above is that the guy was apparently telling people he was going to rape and murder this girl beforehand.

I'd have to assume that those people figured that he was just shooting off his mouth and didn't mean it, but don't you think that anyone should have mentioned it to the victim, when seeing her at a party with this guy, and especially seeing her about to leave with him, that he had been boasting about how he was going to "stick her head in a cardboard box"...???

I hope the poor kid manages the long task of recovery, both physical and especially mental, from this.
