PUBLIC HEARING FOR SJM 8016, CALLING FOR A FULL INVESTIGATION AND TRIAL OF BUSH AND CHENEY
Room 2 of the Cherberg Bldg., on the State Capitol Campus in Olympia, 426-14th Ave. SW, Olympia, Washington 98504
SJM 8016 2007-08, revised for 2008 by Senator Oemig calls on Congress to conduct full a full investigation and trial for the President and Vice President. The bill, first introduced Feb. 15, 2007, was heard before the Senate Government Operations and Elections Committee on March 31, 2007, with over 500 pro-impeachment citizens in attendance.
Senators Regala, Kohl-Welles, Kline, Spanel, Fairley, Kauffman, Fraser, Prentice co-sponsored this call for an impeachment investigation.
The bill cites serious allegations of misdeeds by the Office of the Executive. A long list of violations to the US Constitution includes warrantless searches, manipulating intelligence to mislead Congress about the reasons for attacking Iraq, condoning torture, and subverting the rule of law.
The bill states that, "The citizens of Washington state expect and require their highest elected officials be subject to the laws of the land, like any citizen, and uphold the constitutional oath taken by them upon assuming office."
"We are fortunate that Senator Oemig and his colleagues in the Legislature are strong enough to provide leadership when the country needs it most," says Linda Boyd, director of Washington For Impeachment. "We all lose when the constitution is subverted."
SJM 8016 exhorts "our Representatives in the United States Congress to charge President George W. Bush and Vice President Richard B. Cheney with the above offenses and commence a full investigation and trial in the United States Senate."
