She was great.
She ran a little bit late (not her fault; she had been in New Orleans, went back to DC for vote for the Senate version of the economic stimulus package, and I'm sure the weather had an effect) but the crowd understood.
There were 5000 people there, at least. We were down on Marginal Way at Pier 30, in a huge warehouse for the Port of Seattle. The crowd started getting there two hours early. Since it had been announced for less than 24 hours, I was impressed that they got such a big crowd, but there were representatives there of four different unions, including IAM (the Boeing Machinists) and the AFT (American Federation of Teachers). A lot were women, and I was pleased to see, YOUNG women, but there were men there too.
She looked great and spoke well, for over an hour. The only notes she referred to were the ones that referred to local Washington industries that are providing alternative energy sources. I have to tell you my favorite signs:
2 bright pink signs held up by high school girls that read:
HILLARY IS THE BEST (decorated with flowers) and SEATTLE LOVES HILLARY!!!! (with a heart drawn around the word love!)
GIVE 'EM HEALTH, HILLARY
YOU GO GIRL
VOTE FOR MAMMA, NOT OBAMA (my personal favorite)
And then this little gem, carried by a man in a green hat who had clearly come hours ahead of time, as he was right by the stage:
FOR PEACE IN NORTHERN IRELAND, THANK YOU PRESIDENT AND MRS. CLINTON.
(The word Ireland was in green)
There was another person near him that had a sign that said HILLARY IS MEAN, but that was so stupid it just made people laugh. Can't you do any better than THAT? I mean really.
Anyway, her speech was good, a stump speech, sure, but with lots information targeted to the region, and lots of specifics.
