We expect 800 or so delegates and alternates at the 11th LD caucus. We will be electing 36 delegates and 18 alternates to go to the state convention in June and to the Congressional District caucuses in May. (National delgates will be elected at the CD caucuses).
I'm credentials co-chair, and we are planning on having 14 lines, one for each of our precinct caucus locations. We figure people will be able to remember that. If they don't remember their precincts, we will have an alphabetical list. Delegates and alternates will sign in, and the delegates will get a credential. We are planning to have them in six colors, as we will be electing Obama and Clinton delegates from the 7th (16), 8th (6) and 9th (14) CDs, and those totals will be calculated separately.
When the sign-in closes, we will do delegate allocation based on % of attendees for Obama and Clinton. This will probably stay roughly 2/3 Obama and 1/3 Clinton, as it was at the precinct level. (Our 15 uncommitteds will have to make a choice, as that option does not meet the threshold) We will then look at unfilled delegate slots and replace them with alternates, who will then be given delegate credentials. This may take some time, so the attendees will be in the big meeting room listening to speeches or mingling in the halls. We'll have information tables, a raffle table, and a table to sign up for PCOs or neighborhood leaders. People who want to be national delegates will be schmoozing with possible supporters.
When the number of delegates for candidates in each CD is announced, the tally committee takes over. The group will break up into 6 groups, Obama and Clinton in each CD, to elect their delegates and alternates. Right now we will just ask people to vote for, say, 9 of the Obama/CD 7 options. Please print!! The tally committee will then tally the ballots for delegate. Haven't decided if we will elect alternates separately, or whether we will assign the slots based on numbers of votes for delegates in decreasing order.
If you have business or contact cards, bring them. Good time to share.
