http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/361154_wildsky30.htmlcoupla snips:
<Christening the area as wilderness marks a departure, because the land includes low-level forests near Seattle accessible through much of the year -- a family-friendly destination complete with intact old-growth forest stands. That's a big contrast to the high-elevation "rocks and ice" making up much of Washington's congressionally designated wilderness.>
That's really good, but some don't agree:
<Opponents fought the designation as unnecessary to protect the land, which they said does not qualify as wilderness because parts have been logged, mined or otherwise altered.
"Really, what it's doing is locking up land," said Roxanne Husmann, a Snohomish County apple orchardist. "It's about setting a precedent. Once they do it here in the lowlands, they'll be able to do it everywhere.
"This Wild Sky is so riddled with the evidence of man that it's appalling that they would even consider this for wilderness.">
I like to call these people "quasi-libertarian property rights wackos".
Anyway, its nice to be proud of Patty Murray for a change.
